Saw that. Horrible contract. He is good but not that good. How do they plan on keeping Giroux and co. when their goalie and defenseman each have basically a 150 mil in contracts?

All that matters is how Bryz does. If he shits the bed they're toast. Just imagine if the Flyers ever had a good goalie?

Either 4 first round picks (probably in mid 20s) or Weber. They were gonna match Suter I can't see them not matching this.

its about a 7.5 mil per year cap hit after they have already lost suter. they have the room to do it. tough to sell letting your captain get signed by another team through free agency. they could stand pat and receive the 4 first round picks but i find it unlikely that they wouldnt match.

Nashville finally establishing themselves and now they may lose Weber on top of already losing Suter and Radulov.

Wed be having parades in this town every other year, its sad we payed bryz all that fukking money, they should have given bobrovsky one more year to prove himself, he would have stepped up to the plate.

Worry about it when the time comes... they have a lot of the youngsters including Giroux at low-end contracts for another couple years.

Losing Radulov is a plus.
You don't need any skill players in the West anyway.

NHL really wants another lockout with all these contracts.
You have all these bums making over $10mill (Suter, Parise, Myers, Richards, Ehroff, Bryzgalov, etc.)
These guys are not even worth $10 million put together.

This is the underlying story! All these 10, 12, 14 year contracts are insane. Donald Fehr and the owners are gonna have a blood bath.

You really think so? Reminds me of the Knicks and Lin in a way. Obviously, Weber has had a longer career but same principle.

IF Nashville does not match they are really f*cked. The 4 picks they are getting back will all be in the 20s....very tough to get a prospect that will be even close to Weber at that part of the first round.

Weber is elite. For my money, no defenceman is worth more over a 10+ year deal than Weber. This is a very fair deal caphit wise but it's set up in a way that Nashville almost has no chance of matching.
You have to realize that Nashville is not a cap team. They are run on an internal budget of around ~52 to 53 million/year. The first year on this behemoth contract is something like 26 million. This is a situation (set up by the Flyers) that cap hit (which is a reasonable 7.something/year) does not matter and the actual dollars take precedent. Nashville literally can't afford to pay Weber this kind of money in the first year.
If they had assurance that he would stay with the team for the duration of the entire term, then maybe they take the risk on it and swallow a big deficit for the first season and slowly make it back later. However, as an RFA signing an offer sheet, Weber is free to be traded 1 year after he signs the deal. If he wants out after that first year (which indications are looking like) then Nashville cannot afford to pay him 26 million (the bulk of the salary all in the first year) and then have him demand out. They literally can't afford it, they don't have the money to support matching this structure of offer sheet (no doubt the reason that Holmgren set it up this way).

Maybe deep but far from best.
When MAF is the #1 overall pick, that says it all.
D-man can always be drafted late (chara, lidstrom, keith, whoever), impossible to predict who will be good though.

Hockey contracts still max out at about 7.5 a year and the team still has to fit under the salary cap which ensures profitability. the length of the contracts a concern but no reason Shea Weber cannot play 14 more years.

Odds are against him. Your counting on him being a Lidstrom? Good luck

Far from best? Easily Number 1. 1979 would be second probably.

Unfortunately, it will not be enough to get them to that next level if he does end up with the Flyers.

#Preds Weber offer sheet from #Flyers. 1st 4 yrs 1M salary+13M sb; yrs 5-6 4M sal+ 8Msb; yrs 7-10 6M sal; year 11 3M sal; last 3 yrs 1M sal
If #Preds match #Flyers offer, they must keep him 1 calendar yr before trying to trade him. Oh and pay him 27M in meantime. #nothappening
