just seems like if he wanted to avoid the sbr community, showing up at the bash (even though there's freebies involved) is a funny way of doing it.

Yes, I remember it well. It was Youngstown State---and he hammered it or so he said. After the fact, he middled it of course.

My favorite Fishism though was his College Football Game of the Year. He told everyone to load up on Minnesota +7 in a late season Big 10 game. Minnesota lost 55-0. I am not kidding. 55-0. That was one of the funniest threads ever on SBR.
