BCS presidents approve four-team major college playoff
The long, slow march toward a major college football playoff is over. It has been approved.

But the who, when, where and how much money parts of the new postseason process are yet to be determined.Conference commissioners met with an oversight committee of university presidents and chancellors in Washington Tuesday to approve the four-team seeded playoff, consisting of two semifinal games in bowls and a national championship game that will be put up for bid.
    • Commissioners presented the plan for 30 minutes then took questions from the presidents, who then deliberated for about three hours before announcing their approval.
The 14-year reign of the Bowl Championship Series— and the persistent criticism that accompanied it - is finally near its send."This was timely, had to be done," former Big 12 acting commissioner Chuck Neinas said before Tuesday's meetings began. "(It was in) response to the public, response to the interest in college football. The BCS has done a great deal in helping promote college football, and there's a general feeling we need to do something better to determine a national champion."Current BCS contracts run through the 2013 season, so the playoff would go into effect after the 2014 season.

    Nothing will change

What would have happened in 2009?

    1. Alabama 13-0
    2. Texas 13-0
    3. TCU 12-0
    4. Cincinnati 12-0
    5. Florida 12-1
    6. Boise State 13-0

Who would have been the 4?

Can't wait until an undefeated team like Boise State or some ACC team gets shut out from the 4 team playoff in favor of a 1 or 2 loss SEC team and the shitstorm that will follow. Because it will happen. Selection committee will pick the 4 teams based on ticket sales and the logo on their helmet rather than merit and cite "strength of schedule" as an excuse for it

Need at least 8 teams for it to be legit

Exactly the point I was making above

If a team doesn't average at least 80k in attendance per game they will be ineligible

The 4 teams selected will be all about the logo on the helmet and how many tickets they can sell

Can't wait for TCU to win the Big 12 and get shut out because the Big 10 Pac 12 and SEC also had undefeated teams, and decided to take a 2nd SEC team because the "Big 12 had a down year". Note the Big 12 will be in a down year when TCU wins it, but will be a strong year when Texas or Oklahoma win it.

Mark it down. Anything to keep smaller teams out.

I bet if this were in place in 2010 TCU when they won the Rose Bowl still would have been shut out. Oregon Auburn would have been in, Wisconsin would have been in, and it would have come down to TCU or Ohio State for the last spot. Hmmmm... wonder which way the NCAA would go on that one? TCU and its limited market reach and ~45k per game fanbase, or Ohio State and its massive market reach and nationwide fanbase?

Now the fifth place team gets offended instead of the third place (OK St.) gets offended.

9th is much better than 5th

If you are the 9th rated team you likely have Atleast one game where you completely fukked up and can only blame yourself

4th/5th arguments could get really sketchy IMO

                    Good post
Thanks but not like Clemson really......They got smoked by South Carolina and NC State and then gave up 70 fukkin points in their bowl game (Meaning not in contention for 8 seed and rightfully so)

Arkansas, Boise St, South Carolina, K-State, Wisconsin all in that 6-8-ish range
