#19The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired first baseman Lucas Duda from the New York Mets, the team announced Thursday afternoon. The Mets will receive right-handed pitcher Drew Smith in return. In a corresponding move, the Rays have designated outfielder Shane Peterson for assignment.
Duda is batting .246 this season with a .347 on-base percentage for the Mets, having clubbed 17 home runs and driven in 37 runs over 75 games. His .879 OPS puts him on pace for the highest mark of his career.
A member of the Mets franchise since he was selected in the seventh round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft out of USC, Duda debuted with the club in 2010. He has served in a multitude of roles with the franchise, appearing in at least 100 games in five consecutive seasons from 2011-15, playing primarily first base. He slugged a career-high 30 home runs and 92 RBIs in 2014.
The Mets will get back righty Drew Smith, who owns a 1.60 ERA across three minor league levels this season with both the Rays and the Detroit Tigers farm systems. Since he was taken in the third round by Detroit in 2015, he owns a career 1.80 ERA in the minors.Comment -

#25Wtf, Mets ship him for another pitcher? Back to stupidville for management. We need hitters not another pitcher. Injuries have hurt this season but we all have seen what the pitchers on the staff already can do when healthy. But ya, Duda was a disappointment at best this season but seriously this trade was just ridiculous. Another fuk you to the fans like me.Comment -
