I began training that day learning the basics of casino gambling. Many of my coworkers spoke English as a second language. They would occasionally miss the nuance of American slang. On one occasion Jose responded to a live chat message by typing “I'm your fairy queen.” I asked him “Do you know what that means.' “Yes”, he replied, “ It means I'm his dream come true.” I responded,” Its more likely to be taken to mean that you're a homosexual.”
From reading that, natrass, I assume that you're "Jose". Care to share your experiences too?

I dont think even royal would threaten em with there kids....what the fack.

You don't spit into the wind, you don't tug on superman's cape, you don't pull the mask off the ole lone ranger, and you don't mess around with Jim. Robert had an alter ego. His name was Jim. Robert tilted the scales around three hundred pounds and had a mysterious edge to his personality. He could be charming at one moment and then alarmingly cruel seconds later. He was intelligent, cunning, and manipulative. He began his internet career years earlier in the porn industry. He was now the sales manager for the internet casino. One day I made my mind up about the internet casino when “Jim” began making his collection calls. “Jim” had a voice that could pass for Mike Tyson. He never bothered with small accounts. If you owed us $10,000 or more Jim would give you a call. He did his homework first. He would talk to the sales agent who worked the gambler. He would research our records and search the internet for information. He would find out where they lived, where they worked, where their children went to school. Then he would make the call as “Jim”. Jim had a toughguy routine that was very convincing. Imagine a Brooklyn accented voice calling you on the phone and with slow and deliberate pauses saying, “Yeah, this is Jim. I'm here at the park by Central Elementary. I work on commission you see, so I gets me monies.” “We can do this the hard way or the easy way.” “Either way I don't care. Either way I get's me monies.” “Who is Jenny”. “Oh, your daughter, well Jenny goes to school across the street from this park, and remember I always gets me monies.” A boom of laughter filled the office. This routine served as a favorite source of entertainment for the casino employees. However, the gag was all to serious. Jim's routine worked. It worked quickly and it worked every time. I had heard about it but this was the first time I was in the room when Robert made six of these phone calls. Two of the gamblers called and wired the money in within thirty minutes. One of the Indians from the corner office listened to the phone call and joined in the laughter. As he walked away he replied, “Robert, if these charge backs get out of hand we will have to really send someone out.” I left work an hour early that day. I called the airlines and booked a flight out of Costa Rica. I never picked up my last check.

Something like this you never can be sure how true it is, but it does seem to read pretty true. The threats are certainly extreme, but that would also make them effective so that doesn't seem out of the realm of possible.

interesting article,i always enjoy a glimpse into the sportsbook(casino)world.my dealings with royal have always been satisfactory although my acct managers have changed over the years.fortunately richard has remained constant and he has treated me fairly.i assume that one of the reasons i,m treated well is that over the past 4 years i,m down about 100k,but when i won over 35k i was paid.i now better understand the rants about tej.as bill dozier has said and is my favorite industry quote regarding both sides of the fence:"you,re not dealing with a bunch of nuns here".

Good ol' Nevtej Kohli, the owner of Bet Royal who spent time in a federal prison for swindling people out of their homes with phony equity loans. Now he is doing his swindling in the off-shore gambling world.

jumper, if you ever win big, you'll never see it. You are only getting paid now because they have you pegged as a money maker.

I was a player at Royal on and off since the late 90s. I began to play more regularly in 2005 and won big. I got the usual slow pay tactics. If I requested a high four figure payout it would generally be almost a month before I got full payment, which came in 3 or 4 increments by Neteller. And I was told more than once that they would prefer to postpone the payout til the next month (especially in December) so that they would meet their quotas. I got kicked out a couple months ago but I got paid.

I would recommend cashing your loyalty points there as you go along because I had over $1,000 worth of points that I forfeited when I got thrown out, but they did comp me a couple hundred $ bonus on my last payout because of that. I understand they have a 5x roll on loyalty points cashed, so you want to use these as you get them if you play there. I find it hard to believe some of the more outrageous stuff in the story, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.

Well, the article IS on writing.com, not on sbrforum.com. So starting with that, we know that his purpose is not to inform necesarily, but to write something enjoyable. This guy is a writer, and a good one at that.

However, just like any writer, you have to embellish and over-stress things to get the proper effect. A writer can turn a walk down the street into a journey.

Based on what I know, about Costa Rica, the gambling industry here, and Bet Royal, I know he's telling a lot of truths but there is definitely embellishment going on.

Also, I just don't buy that "Holier than thou" attitude... Like his shit don't stink or something....

That thing about beggars following several blocks a "white man" it's a big lie.
How could crippled beggars follow any one? Besides that, San José is full of tourists especially u.s. americans, therefore it's very common to see "white men and women" every day.
He's giving such a bad image of Costa Rica.
If he had only being one hour at a beach, just any beach, he would have fall in love with the country.
If you go to shitty places like that whorehouse del Rey, what can u expect but whores and drugs?

Like I had said earlier, he is exagerating... but i guess "big lie" also fits some parts. And Baphomet is totally right.

Before Tej bought Royal, a "slow-pay" was considered evil and any book caught would be wasted. ALL the forums would drop an advertiser once slow-pays were confirmed.

Their advertising partners such as MW, MJ's and sportscrew took the lead in coining "Its ok you were slow paid at royal, at least they pay eventually".

Royal and Tej's partners have certainly tried hard to lower the bar which is terrible for the industry. They didnt get away with it in part because of sites like SBR, covers and theRx. Can you imagine if Tej was able to buy everyone? 'Pottersville' comes to mind.
