#37there are a huge number of studies out there that say gambling is related to crimes.Originally posted by mikejammWhat the fuk is wrong with dispelling a myth Rudy?
and its not, "oh damn i just lost my money i think i'll rob the casino dealer and hit the old lady at the slots". people don't commit the crimes on the spot.
thats like saying people at mcdonalds will have a heart attack. they aren't going to have a heart attack in mcdonalds.
like i said, not sure how anyone can argue against the study, it is there and many more are out there proving that point.
i would say gambling related crimes as a percentage are on the decline thoughComment -

#38Well than how do they explain more and more brick and mortar casinos being built, state lotteries running as much as ever, etc but ban online gambling and sports betting? What study shows that these types of gambling create more crimes than slot machines?Originally posted by RudyRuetiggerthere are a huge number of studies out there that say gambling is related to crimes.

#41Prostitution is legal in las vegas, but only in certain places. You can go to certain places in vegas to have sex with a prostitute legally. In craiglist you might find sex for free and legally which is even better.Comment -

#43This one is easy, multiple variables. Its like this say the factors that contribute to crime are Income Level of Inhabitants(larger number the lower the income), Gambling, and Closeness of Inhabitants. Let Income Level be X, Gambling be Y and Closeness(inverse to how close you are) by Z. in 1977, X is 5, Y is 4, and Z is 8 for a total of 17. In the intervening years we build 3 more casinos bringing Y to 7. Say also in the intervening years the average income level goes up by $20,000 so X drops from 5 to 3, inhabitants because more spread out say by 3,000 feet on average bringing Z down 5. So now X is 3, Y is 7 and Z is 3 for a total crime level of 13. Overall crime has gone down despite of the negative affect that gambling had on the crime rate, not that hard to understand.Originally posted by MoneyLineDawgWell than how do they explain more and more brick and mortar casinos being built, state lotteries running as much as ever, etc but ban online gambling and sports betting? #44I wrote a term paper about crime/economic effects that a casino has on a city.Originally posted by RudyRuetiggerthere are multiple studies out there and basically have the same conclusion as this. not sure how anyone can dispute that with opinions.
however, i would say the percentages of gambling/crimes are decreasing each year (but thats my opinion and will change if anyone shows facts differing).
Every legitimate study I found from Universities all across the nation all had the same conclusion. Gambling and Crime go hand in hand. Of course a casino will generate money for the economy, but the effect on the community sometimes isn't worth the economic boost. Each city is different of course, but to say gambling doesn't increase crime you are foolish.
I just wish all these other posters would find some evidence to back their claims, instead they all say it's the government and the government is controlling us blah blah blah you would think people would have some sort of education on this website. Instead they all believe in these outrageous conspiracies.Comment -

#49If anything, keeping it offshore makes it much harder to spot corrupt and fixed games - if you not only legalised it, but encouraged good co-operation between US based sportsbooks and the sports governing bodies, then there would be a basis for books to say when they had suspicious betting patterns on a match, and likewise if the governing body had issues with suspecting a corrupt game then they could speak to the books and see if there looked like anything dodgy on the betting.Comment -

#52You know guys there isnt anything in the bible that says people shouldnt gamble, so blaming the bible or people who believe in christianity isnt a valid reason. Granted there are far right politicians who claim its a sin, but there are far right politicians and far left politicians that make all kind of claims with no facts to back them up on all kinds of social issues. But, blaming christians is just an excuse because you dont like someones religion,JMO.
