what is the real benefit of a sports pager?
I was not aware that a sports pager even existed until a member of this forum mentioned it. I've seen it being sold for $200! What is a sports pager really for? To see scores? I can see scores online for free. If a sports pager's score monitoring is real time, then the only benefit I see in having a sports pager is if betting live? What else did I miss? I'd like to have one. What are the recommended brands and or features/standards a sports pager need to have? Does it require a monthly service fee? Does it show ALL scores of ALL sporting events as the sporting event is being played live (USA/Overseas games)? Now, this would be a good thing so I won't have to flip channels or even sit to watch a dull game (I'm really just a newbie bettor first, sports fan second). I mentioned Overseas games as I have placed bets on Mexican and Venezuelan baseball and actually won (I picked the favorites of course LOL).

Wouldn't a smartphone function just as well as a sports pager, or is there really a difference? Is there some kind of app for smartphones that functions as a "sports pager"? I'd rather have the smartphone if this is the case so I won't have to carry around useless gadgets (I have many of these. I need to get rid of cameras, video cameras, and just have all these separate things all in one smartphone which I will be getting soon).

They posted that picture in a joking fashion. They are old school and no use for them these days.

Was neat having one during the years I did. I'd look at it constantly.

what was its function? does it send scores to you in real time? does it cost a monthly service fee? no wonder I never heard of sports pager before (I'm a newbie). The word "pager" does sound outdated. I think "texting" is the new "paging".

"drain my phone"? that's why there is such a thing as "unlimited" service now...

Text NFL or NBA to 4INFO or 4GOOG.

Voila! Scores magically appear in 10 seconds.

Depends on what you do and how much

If you just play lil here or there you probably get by with just the free stuff. But if your a dime player or more, it's only smart to have organized info from several casinos.

There is no smartphone app that shows you multiple casinos. In fact they just say "CURRENT" (well where the hell did that line come from) And if you do use the normal websites they might show you more, but it takes 10-60+ seconds for pages to load. That's not very helpful when your trying to get down on a game that is about ready to go off the board. Imagine what happens if the your phone gets confiscated, then you might worry about all those free odds sites or site you use and all the times you visit it. Doesn't take rocket scientist to figure out what your doing.

If you "TAKE" action. You cannot go without a pager or beeper. Cant always be by the computer and you cannot check lines while on phone talking to clients. PLUS a lot of those free site will track your stuff and who's to say their not monitoring you.

It comes down to trust if you trust the FREE stuff is good enough, so be it. I personally like knowing my casinos, having a company protect my information and not track down my personal info on my phone. A lot of you would be surprised to see how much I can get from your "smart phones" just by having you go to a website. Doesn't matter if you log in or not. I can force your phone to push down info. Just have to tell it what. Name, phone #, etc...

So think about what your doing and make informed decisions.
I use one pager place now because I get halftime lines live and my customers love to hedge their bets. I like it too! The same place I use for my pager I have a cellphone backup that works the same and gives all the info the pager does. Pages load in less than 4 seconds and no info is ever saved on my phone. Not to mention you need username and password just to access it. So no worrys if my phone gets nabbed.

betting is a game of timing and also being able to organize all the info out there. that's why it worth having something that keeps you organized and confident about the numbers your giving out. You will get busted out if you use outdated lines because some FREE site didn't feel like doing their job or was down.

cant bitch at them when shit happens because it's FREE.
most likely never get a hold of any customer service too.

peace of mind is priceless when big money is on it. plus i always get overnights where the FREE sites have nothing. no help there.

There used to be this nerdy ass dude who waited tables at a restaurant I worked at. He would always be checking his pager. One day I asked him why he was always looking at his pager - I thought maybe he was dealing weed or something and I could get a hook up. Turns out he was a degenerate gambler looking at a sports pager

i had a pager that would give me text on a screen after someone would call a number and tell someone the text they wanted sent to me. on that pager i was able to get scores. that was before my degenerate days as i was 18,19 at that time. i started betting at 21.
