The more people are intimidated not to do something, the more they want to do it. Especially when it comes to something such as speech.

I realize they want to make an example out of him, but it's a dangerous path to go down, criminalizing words.

Mixed feelings really.

On the one hand "racially aggravated" speech is potentially criminal behaviour according to UK/EU law.
On the other the case would never go to court if it was an incident on the street between two unknown people.

The criminalising words aspect is interesting as to where you draw the line. Inciting violence or terrorism, for instance, would be a criminal offence just about everywhere.
