#2The way Bynum has stepped up I don't know if they really need Dwight now. They'd be better of deepening their bench.Comment -

#12I'm not so sure. If they expect bynum to be healthy, there is no reason to also throw away paul on this trade.
EDIT: obviously mean pau.Comment -

If they couldn't clear enough for Williams they would @ least have enough for a 2nd tier PG.Comment -

#16Dwight is miles ahead of bynum even still, and would guarantee the lakers at least 2 more championships if they could bring him in... Bynum playing so well could be huge if the Magic decide that he might be worth it rather then losing Dwight to free agencyComment -

#18Assume you meant Pau?? It's actually rather simple why they would "throw" away Pau. First of all the Magic would never take Bynum strait UP for Howard & outside of Pau the Lakers have no assets whatsoever to even it out. But the real reason the Lakers would be willing to "throw" away Pau is because he makes nearly 18m & along w/ the 8.9m Odom TE would clear some cap space to chase a PG......like say.....Deron Williams

#19Him, Paul and kobe would be too much... they would be a better fit then Miamis big three, and you saw how close they got with those three along with a bunch of scrubs last yr... kobe and dwight would be unreal esp. with paul still sitting thereComment -

#21He said Paul and I don't see how they necessarily get Paul.
I was saying that if they get Howard they aren't guaranteed two titles. Now you're saying Howard and Paul.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

#24I dont think they would... a first rounder, bynum, and maybe some kid on their bench with potential... or an expiring contract... I think could be enough for bynum.. idk if orlando is gonna get much more then that from anyone else for just a one year rental. If he promised to sign a muli yr deal with la, def could see it workingComment -

#25The Lakers have two moves here......There's little chance they can get Howard w/o giving both Bynum & Gasol. If they continue to play well & are a legitimate Championship contender come deadline chances are they scrap the Howard sweepstakes & stand pat because realistically Bynum & Gasol for Howard would probably make the team a little less likely to win it all. if they are struggling come deadline they ship both for Howard & then attempt to clear space to also go after D. Williams for next yr.
If they stand pat & miss out on Howard they will then 99% certainly ship out Pau Gasol for nothing but role players in an attempt to clear his 18m salary from the books & then put all their marbles into D. Williams. A team of Kobe, D. Williams & Bynum with strengthened role players from the Gasol trade Could easily compete for championships over the next 2-3 yrs. Wouldn't be surprised @ all to see them go after l. Odom in next yrs free agency as well. How would this look:
pg Williams
sg Kobe
c bynum
pf odom

Lakers can't dump Gasol and take back no salary in return. They have to take back a player (or players) of equal salary.
There's nothing LAL can do to have cap space for Deron Williams (who's almost surely signing with Dallas).Comment -

#29They can if they are offering an 8.9m TE as well?? And they don't have to take equal value they only have to take a % of his salary. They can take expiring contracts as well & then let those contracts walk. You see teams do this all the time.Comment -

#30"Missing out on Howard" implies that the trade deadline has passed. How are they going to deal Gasol (which would necessitate giving up on this season, something Kobe won't stand for) for role players to have cap space to sign Williams this summer?Comment -
