Players way better now
everything more complex
They (defenses) are bigger ad stronger now also defenses much more complex

QBs are soft now. Too many rules to protect them. Brees would get broken playing the game 20 years ago.

Brees didn't just pass the single season passing yard record, he is shattering it.

Rules have changed a little bit since Marino played. It makes the passing game a lot easier now. Db's cannot get by with to much anymore.

Big change is illegal contact rule but yes...brees deserves the record
Last I checked it's still 11 on 11

Probably.
But not really a fair comparison. Most of the best players today are more athletic and more skilled than the best players of decades ago.
Dan Marino and Drew Brees are both two of the best of their era.

The fact that Brees is still out there in a 38-17 game says it all.
Classless move by Payton. Keep running up those numbers.

when dan marino threw for 5k yards guys like chuck cecil, steve atwater, and ronnie lott were turning receivers crossing the middle into roadkill every time. john randle was wearing war paint and tony siragusa was giving qbs 'the big splash'. now everyone is throwing for 4000 yards. this is what happens when you turn the defenses into pussies by overprotecting receivers and qbs

Marino is the most overrated qb in the history of the game, this last record being broken is closure on his overrated legacy.

Miami likely could of won the superbowl the years the bears won if it wasn't for injuries. They had 11, yes 11 starters out for their playoff game . They beat the bears in the regular season.
Marino was throwing to overrated wr and rbs. What hall of fame players did marino play with????????

Tony Siragusa was still in high school when Dan Marino was throwing 5000 yards.
