#72Good point. You don't want the target severely devalued before a prospective buyer commits. In this case, Chris Paul represents a significant part of the New Orleans franchise's value.Originally posted by doublej95The NBA is looking out for their own interest in wanting Paul to stay in New Orleans till they can find a buyer for the team. #73Cite me one example of a team 60-1 at the end of the season.Originally posted by andywendIts amazing how WRONG people are just about all of the time. The NBA is completely lopsided as the same 7 or 8 teams have won the last 40 championships. There is NO PARITY in the league as evidenced by the Pacers being 35-1 dogs against the #1 seeded Bulls who weren't even close to being the best team in the East. Stern blocked the trade because he didn't want another marquee player going to the #1 marquee team in the league in the LA Lakers. Late in the NBA season, you see teams being 60-1 underdogs to win individual games. I realize that the fans would love to see 10 straight Lakers-Heat series in a row but thats not good for the long standing of the league. Plain and simple, the NBA needs a huge shot of parity among the teams which is what caused the lockout and why Stern blocked this most recent trade of Paul going to the Lakers.
NBA is about Dynasties, not parity. Most teams get their moment at some point. That's why the NBA is the most select league in all of worldwide sports.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#74SmokeABowl, your name fits as its obvious whatever brain cells you might have had once are now FRIED. There will always be superpowers and rivalries regardless of the amount of parity in the NBA. As it stands now, the 22-24 teams that haven't come close to a championship are hanging on by a thread and these are good times for the NBA.Originally posted by smoke a bowlThe NBA sucks without any superpowers/enemies. Would you enjoy an 8 team NBA League, boy?GoatMilk, there were SEVERAL games featuring 60-1 dog moneylines during the last few weeks of EVERY NBA SEASON. You'll never find that price at a regular sportsbook but I saw it quite frequently at Matchbook.Cite me one example of a team 60-1 at the end of the season.
These games always featured playoff teams against opponents that were already eliminated from playoff consideration. The strange thing is the spread of these games didn't move past 17 or 18 points but the moneylines frequently soared above 60-1 and as high as 100-1.
Anybody who had a Matchbook account last year who wagered on NBA games will confirm it.Comment -

#75The problem all lies in the fact that Chris Paul dictates where he wants to go and it's not fair to the rest of the league. He'll sign a contract extension with the Knicks and Lakers, but won't sign one with the Clippers or Warriors. Seventy percent of the league knows they don't have the same chance to make this deal, which rebuilds the Lakers overnight if they get Howard.
It is a more than fair trade for the Hornets, but I understand why the owners are pissed.Comment -

#76Why would that matter, Paul is not staying in new Orleans no matter what. Nixing this deal hurts the franchise when they get nothing while Paul sleepwalks through this year protecting his knee and walks away after this yearOriginally posted by MadTigerGood point. #78Vishnu Parasuraman wrote a good article on why the NBA should have disallowed the deal, or at least a reasonable reason why they could have,
It should have simply made the case that financially, the Hornets were committing more than $60 million, the other 29 owners are responsible for paying that bill, and they have every right to vote on that trade.Comment -

#79Hornets GM has been given permission to seek trades again for Paul. Rumor is he has worked up another Lakers/Rockets deal that should meet league approval.Comment -

from what I have seen on espn the league would prefer a star for star trade. not a trade that leaves the Hornets in rebuilding mode. Also if a Paul trade does not happen by Monday the Union or Chris Paul might take legal action against the league for block the first trade.Comment -
