the Gaels were already stacked before Mo Mo Jones transfered from Arizona. like Long Beach St yesterday this Iona squad will have no fear of Purdue and are senior/junior lead by Machado n Glover who will play with plenty of confidence, knowing they are the better team...this is no upset special...the Gaels are FOR REAL..... unless Hummel hangs 50 today, Due will get handled.

A preseason favorite to claim the MAAC title this season, the Gaels have plenty of firepower to fulfill that promise under second-year head coach Tim Cluess. Leading the way on the floor for Iona is senior Mike Glover, who has been picked as the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year after being one of only a handful of players in Division I to average a double-double with 18.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest last season, both of which easily paced the Gaels. Also selected to the preseason all-conference team are Scott Machado and Kyle Smith, which means the Gaels have a dominant group among the starters. Machado (13.2 ppg) was one of the nation's leaders in assists with 281 in 37 games, giving him better than a two-to-one ratio against turnovers. Smyth, responsible for 10.1 ppg, is a three-point threat every time he touches the ball after knocking down 75 triples last year.
Considering the Boilermakers were taken to the limit by a program like High Point, Purdue could be in real trouble this afternoon because the Gaels are packed with talent both in the starting five and on the bench.

I dunno... if this team is so good and experienced, why did they lose to Bryant University, Vermont, Siena, Loyola Maryland, Santa Clara, Cleveland State, St. Peter's, Kent State... they lost pretty much every reasonable game out of conference last year.

those games have nothing to do with this year. if anything it made them grow stronger...they got off to a real slow start last year and had a little mid season slump....they didn't play anywhere near their capabilities consistently but when they do/did they are a very dangerous squad.

50-50....Iona +5.5 still looks good to me. Purdue is in rebuilding mode with losing their 2 leading scorers and Hummel rusty from blowing out his knee again. I see Purdue being a bubble team and maybe 6th or 7th in the B10 at best.Comment -
