I just watched the entire press conference granted by the Attorney General's Office and State Police. It was on our Pennsylvania channel and was quite lengthy. It was obvious by the questions from the more savvy newsmen that how could certain university officials and athletic officials be charged and people like Joe Paterno skate free. No one could answer the question satisfactorily—neither Linda Kelly (Penna. Attorney General) nor any of the state police officials. Every indictment ever handed down always boils down to whom they decide to charge and whom they decide to let skate. They claim Paterno properly mentioned it to the proper people. Some newsmen even asked why Sandusky was allowed on the field with some kids from his charity after he had left his job, and how come no one said anything about this nor complained or protested. The officials were mute and at a loss for words. From what I can see, it seems to me that the officials charged lied when they were subpoened by the investigating grand jury, and that certainly set them up for a fall. Most officials commented that "Mr. Paterno was always cooperative and did mention certain things to his superiors." How noble!
Some of the incidents go back to almost a decade. Get a load of this, the AG stated that you do not necessarily need the name of a victim to press charges, and, as we speak, they still do not have the names of some of the victims. The entire scandal broke because of one kid and his parents making a complaint to a little local police station.
