Rattlesnakes are extremely venomous. So rational conclusion is that those bitten by venomous snakes usuall do not make it back to SBR for daily points. Ya dig?

i did once. Fucker got the jump on my when i was walking down a trail. I pulled out my pocket knife and cut it. then i cut off my leg with the swiss army knife. used a cigarette to close the amputation. hobbled home and made a badass belt!

No it is not common but it can happen. I dont think they would be moving very fast this time of the year as it would be a little cooler in the mountains. I have almost stepped on a rattlesnake so usually they are not looking to bite first, they usually shake their rattles on their tail first as a warning, then strike.

they hear you coming and hide. they do not want to bite you. don't poke around any strange holes.

You'll be fine....most snakes will get out of your way hiking before you even get close. Just watch where you sit to take a break i.e. stumps and rocks.

The only good snake is a dead snake. I do remember a friend when he was a teenager getting struck by a rattlesnake, thankfully he was wearing cowboy boots so it did not break his skin. He also had to through away the boots though as you dont want to mess around with the venom. That would also be a good reason to wear a high top pair of hiking boots.

                      nearly.

was running down a trail when i heard this bone chilling rattle even over my walkman. screeched to a stop which caused me to fall on my ass. paniced while on the ground not knowing where the damn thing was. finally spotted it... couple feet away was this 3 foot rattler (later learned it was the most venomous) and wouldve got me had i taken 1 more step.

made sure it wouldnt get another chance.
