Papelbon needs a shoehorn to get the dikk out of his throat that the orioles choked him out with last night.

Kimbrel nor Valverde should be mentioned in the same sentence as Mo. Kimbrel has been awesome for a Rook and Valverde still perfect on the yr in save opportunities far from "bums". Have been blessed to have them both( Valverde an Kimbrel) on my fantasy team this yr, as I'm taking the championship home.

if you are a Yankee closer, you will have a lot of closing opportunities

                                        but

if you are a Padres Closer you won't....there is a close correlation between save numbers and numbers of save opportunity. I mean save numbers and broken record don't explain everything. rivera is a great closer but Hoffman has better career and I respect him more

It was said "a prophet is without honor in his own country", but this is not the case with Mariano. In Panama, when the game gets to the last couple of innings--if the score is close, EVERY establishment all over the country has the game on in anticipation of his entering. Then, if he is called on, everything slows down and all eyes are on him. During the playoffs, I have seen the table games at the casinos almost completely come to a stop till his work is finished. It truly is an amazing thing to see. I am not much of a Yankee fan, but watching a skilled surgeon work always gets my juices flowing.

Mariano's wiery body gives him unusual strength for a man of his size. Closer can't be considered equal to an everyday player but Mariano is like Joe DiMaggio's streak of 56 games. The level of discipline to do that for an extended period of time is amazing.

saves are the worst stat in baseball to determine a players value to a baseball club.
