As someone who has dealt with hurricanes for a long time, they are not something to take lightly. If you live in an area that's prone to flooding, or you're near the Atlantic coast anywhere north of Myrtle Beach, act like a responsible adult and be prepared. Good luck to all.

I'm not advocating that anyone run for the hills today. Just be aware of what's going on. When a hurricane is 100 miles from making landfall, that's no time to wonder if you have enough batteries for your emergency radio and what you're going to eat if you have no stove, oven or microwave and everything in the frig goes bad.
Generally, people are pretty stupid about these kind of things. A hurricane comes ashore, knocks out all the power for 24 hours, which means you can't go to the gas station to fill up your car. "Gee, I didn't think of that." Duh!

Sounds like fun. I would take hurricanes over snow and -30 windchill in the winter though anyday. Counting down the days in till i get the F out of Wisconsin.

For those who live on the East Coast take warning and get out now if you can. You may think the weathermen are throwing the storm out of proportion, or have the mantality of oh I am safe where I am. Think twice, for your sake, your family sake if you have one. Looking at the storm if it rides the East coast all the way up, the whole east coast will be damaged by 100 mph plus winds. For those that don't know / never experienced a Cane, as long as the eye is over the water it gains strength, basically the water is it's fuel. True when the winds hit the coast it weakens a catagory stage by one, but until the eye reaches land it is a living breathing storm.
I live in Houston, and over the last several years I have been through 2 Hurricanes. The first was Rita, and let me tell you many a years ago, people all the same idea around here.... " oh I'm not leaving, it won't do anything." Then Katrina hit New Orleans and people were fleeing at the last minute, freeways were crowded, lives were lost riots broke out, just utter chaos. When Rita came towards Houston, me and my family went to North texas. My wife and kids left a day earlier than me. I left 24 hrs before landfall, and the route I took to North Texas usually takes 4 hrs to drive.... this particular time it took me 16 hrs. The traffic was bumper to bumper all at a crawl. you need to have patience as everyone is trying to get out of town.... fear overtook many folks and they were driving and acting like it was the end of the world. Once the storm crossed land we went back to Houston, and it wasn't bad here as the storm took a late minute turn and hit Beaumont area. Houston ended up being on the "clean side" the west side of the storm.
However a few years ago hurricane Ike hit the coastline south of Galveston. We stayed with family in far northeast Houston and that was hell ! I remember watching the news coverage before the storm hit and traffic was backed up all over the freeways. Cars breaking down, running out of gas. When the storm hit, power went out, and when I mean it wnet out, it was out for up to 3 weeks in some parts of town. You had no power, hot and humid, mosquitoes galore. Fights breaking out at gas stations as slowly gas stations beagn to open up when they had fuel. That was pure hell in itself. I remember grocery stores being bare of food as well. They say to be prepared with a weeks worth of food and supplies. My best advice is to just leave if you can and have the money. Leave for a few days, and if your part of town got nailed, just take a extended week or 2 vacation. If you have no funds to leave town and ride the storm out, well use your head and be wise. Stock up on as much food as you can.

Most likely this is done to give businesses a chance to stow away liquor in lieu of possible future riots or break ins. Liquor will be one of the 1st things critters go after if the power goes out or conditions get bad. If people can't buy or sell, there is no reason to leave liquor not on lock down.

Told my wife days ago that a bad one was coming and this is about as bad as it can get. You think New orleans was under water, wait till you see the destruction here. Land masses will be lost forever.

NC gonna get hit by category 2. Time it gets to Jersey it will be Cat 1. Still no joke but not as bad as people are saying. They are putting up the bridges @ 10 tomorrow in my town and kicking every1 out.
Typical media overhyping and fear mongering. Ridiculous.
