Your greedy banks:
My summarized Coles notes for our American friends that can't read:
- Banks would intentionally process debit transactions in order of dollar size instead of by when the actual transactions took place
- This had the potential to increase the amount of overdraft charges on the account holder
EXAMPLE: You have $500 in your account, and you make debit purchases of $25, $100, $75 and $450, in that order.
- Normally, your balance would go down to $475, then $375, then $300, then -$150, and you'd get hit with 1 overdraft charge
- Now, with the corrupt business practices that American banks employ, what would happen is that the $450 purchase would get processed first, leaving $50 in your account. Then the $100 would get processed, which would trigger an overdraft charge. The remaining 2 transactions would also trigger overdraft charges. You have now been hit with 3 overdraft charges instead of 1. Is that fair?
In every civilized nation on the planet, banks don't operate this way, so why does it happen in the USA? #1. Greed, it's as pure and simple as that. Money is greater than man in the USA. #2. A system that turns a blind eye to greed. It was a scam, it's as pure and simple as that. I'd expect something like this in third world nations, but America? Is this really the self proclaimed greatest nation in the world? Who would want to live in such conditions where banks getting away with legalized, blatant theft? How are the CEO's of these banks not in jail?
My Conclusion
This is only one example of a slew that exist in America. American corporations view the nation's citizens as dollar signs, trying to extract as much money out of them as they possibly can. Your laws don't protect you against this seeing as how this particular scam had been going on for 10 years. From the scams that happened at Enron and Worldcom, to the "bailout" of Wall Street at the taxpayer's expense, America falls short on the business ethics scale of integrity. Now, of course this type of stuff happens in other countries, but never to the degree it does in the USA. There are about a dozen nations on this planet where I'd rather hold a bank account than the USA because of these nickel and dime tactics they use to siphon your money. I'm still trying to figure out why America is the greatest nation on Earth, can someone please help me out?
