I don't see why you'd ever need to say it, just say "gloves".

I never liked the word "gaga," and unfortunately for me, the biggest celebrity in a generation decided to name herself it.

"Niggardly" (noun: "niggard") is an adjective meaning "stingy" or "miserly", perhaps related to the Old Norse verb nigla = "to fuss about small matters". It is cognate with "niggling", meaning "petty" or "unimportant", as in "the niggling details".

People don't seem use this word much anymore... I can't figure out why.

You know there's a difference between mittens and gloves, right? Put it this way, OJ would have been able fit his hand inside of a mitten. It was the fingers that got him.
