Out of Curiosity does your town have a big Heroin problem?
I am curious about this. I have no clue about other parts of the country but where I live it is a HUGE epidemic. Lots of strung out Adolescents and others. I want to know if it is a Country wide thing or not? I know it is all over but it is really bad in my town.

The good thing (if there is one) is that Meth hasn't arrived yet.

Meth and crack are big problems around here. Not too sure about heroin.

I'm obsessed with drug addicts. How do people become drug addicts? Is it really that hard to quit? I watch that show "Intervention" whenever it's on.

Just some thoughts since I am in the field

Both biological and environmental factors. For example, research suggests that the earlier someone starts drinking the more inclined they are to become an alcoholic. Alcohlism runs in families thus lending support to the biological position. Environment plays a significant role but these individuals tend to be genetically loaded. It is very difficult to quit because it requires you to change your whole way of life which can be a challege for even for the most functional person. Invention is a great show, the general theme of the drug addict usually begins with trauma or a significant amount of family dysfunction which is generational.

One of my favorite Sopranos episodes was when they decided to have an intervention for Christopher, and it ended up pretty much the way you'd expect a wise guy intervention to end up, lol.
