I need a career change. Any ideas for me?

Ive been doing shipping and receiving/ warehousing for 10 years and it was ok to do as a 20 year old fresh out of school working OT and making a decent coin, enough to get by on my own.

But now 10 years later with all the economic woes and companies constantly looking for ways to cut back and take more away from the worker I am now making less than I did 10 years ago and really finding it hard to get by.

I don't have any degrees or college and I know that not having that kind of paper trail hurts me but there has got to be something out there for a reliable, dependable hard worker..... right??

I am willing to do what the next guy is not.

Anybody have any good career leads for a single 30 year old man?

Jobs that don't require degree's that pays alot that's not super competitive.

California Department of Corrections-your guaranteed to make 70-100k within 10 years working double shiftI know a few former co-workers that only has a high school diploma and some college that are doing that field. Only prerequisite is you need to have a spotless background record.

Other Alternatives:

Be Card Dealer in Nevada or anywhere in the States with Indian Casino's. Cali, OKC, Louisiana.

Be a Truck Driver.

ups would take at least 6-10 years to make driver with the waiting list looking at more like 10 years+ unless you have senority everybody and their mama is on that waiting list now. A great job to get right out of high school or in your mid 20s but part time starting at 10 an hour is for the birds @ 30. If you can get by or have another job go for it money will be great but the price will be your knees and back. I worked for ups for 6 years its a good job only real job i ever regreted quiting.

become a firefighter, work 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off, shift work, on your days do a building qualification, once qualified do usual building work and investing in run down homes and doing them up and selling them. Do all this while pro gambling

go to back to school for nursing, theres endless amount of jobs... i am currently debating whether to change my major to nursing from buis management (finance)

look at getting a technical certification such as Microsoft SQL DBA - (database administrator)

i'll say go join the military reserve. you'll get 6 month vacation at bootcamp, all expense pay for and when you get back they'll pay for you to go to school again.

Military seems like an OK option, as does a government job like USPS. You can apply for a bunch of government jobs at usajobs.gov, just look for the lower-level ones as most everything above GS-5 requires a college degree.

find out what you love to do and then try and go out and it, if that means going back to school then do it.

Go get a 2-year technician/trade degree. That'll be the biggest bang for your buck and will be stable. I personally don't think there will be enough jobs for 4-year degree folks over the next several decades. In order to be successful with a 4-year degree, you'll need to offer a niche. Good luck!
