Name the Five "Immortal" Songs of Your Favorite Decade
It's said that 95% of everything is sh1t.

    Prob true.

And we're talking about market here, esp in the arts, and esp the pop arts.

Classical music, literature etc lasts, because while there are a lot fewer consumers of same, they keep alive the great stuff from the past, generation after generation

Pop tastes change, consumers of same are fickle.

OK, NAME THE FIVE "IMMORTAL" SONGS OF YOUR PRIME GENERATION.

That will usually be when you were (are?) in your teens and 20s, those years seem to be the "years of our lives."

And do you think the songs you favor will still be listed to 50 years from now? Even 20 years from now?

Pop songs from the 50s and 60s seem to fare well, time wise.

Probably because a major icon (Pressley in '50s, Beatles in '60s) appeared, and changed the course of pop music.

In any list of five from the 50s, I gotta believe that Pressley will have at least 3 hits. Ditto for Beatles in '60s.

You get into the 70s, 80s, 90s - I dunno. Madonna in 50 years? Hard to say, probably not. Rap? No, except among older blacks.

Sinatra is an icon among many older folks. But he wasn't really an innovator, just a master phrasemaker. While driving a long distance recently I was listening to an oldies station playing all old Sinatra songs.

I was surprised, at how much pure sh1t there was among them, stuff from the 40s and 50s, that i had to turn the station off, so horrible was it.

Its hard to single out my generation according to your terms because im 25 which means everything ive heard is considered new in terms of a 50 year measurement. Some that I think will stand the test of time are:

        Micheal Jackson "Billie Jean"
        Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
        Lynard Skynard "Sweet Home Alabama"

I would say Outkast "Hey Ya" but after futher review, i dont see any hip hop making it 50 years. Just way too much of it for anything to stand the test of time.

Songs that have made it 50+ years (other than beatles and elvis):
        Rolling Stones "Satisfaction"
        Aretha Franklin "Respect"
        Johnny B Goode "Chuck Berry"
        Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze"
