    Joe bet the Canucks to win the series and risked 2200 to win 1k. Before game 7, he no longer liked the bet and wanted to bail out with a small loss and have nothing at risk on game 7. How much did he bet on the Blackhawks at +150?

    Create an algebra equation and solve for x, which is the amount he bet on the Blackhawks. Show your work.

    I dont see how you could call 500 or more a small loss

            2200=1.5x

            divide both sides by 1.5

            x=1466.666...

            If the Blackhawks win, Joe breaks even.

            If the Canucks win, Joe loses $466.666...

              2200 = 2.5x
              880 risked

                A = Amount at Risk (2200)
                B = To win (1000)
                C = Decimal of Chicago odds (2.5)

                x = (a/c)
                x = 880

                    Alternatively, Joe could bet $1280 on the Blackhawks to win $1920, meaning he has no risk and loses $280 regardless of the outcome.

                    A)Blackhawks win. He wins $1920 and loses $2200, for a net of -280.
                    B)Canucks win. He wins $1000 and loses $1280 for a net of -280 again.

                                    2200 only accounts for your wager, but you need to solve it for what you would receice back total if it won

                                                  I love algebra. It is applicable to real life just like this here. I wish I had become a high school math teacher. I'd probably have parents complaining about gambling lines showing up on my extra credit problems.

                                                          Yeah I loved math all through school from 1st grade thru high school. The highest I took was Calculus 1 and was afraid of all the classes above calc 1 just to be able to teach hs algebra. I wish I had gone that route though.
