Bad Brains were good shit, though I hate the term "hardcore" . Along with X, Public Image LTD., Circle Jerks, the Germs, the Dead Kennedys, the mindf*ck known as Fugazi, and then a host of lesser knowns like The Jesus Lizard, Screeching Weasel & Steel Pole Bathtub (the latter 3 being more 90's), I appropriately rocked out many a day to them...

Reagan Youth! Now that's bringin it back to the days of shows in Tompkins Square Park. Good times. SSLP, I'm sure we know the same people. NYHC was a small scene around that time. Crazy shit went down, I'm sure you know. Kids even leaving their million dollar appartments uptown, to become squatters because it was the cool thing. I miss those days.

Wow, I'm impressed, you're from California and know New Jersey Bloodline? Mr. Enrique Havoc. lol. I haven't seen that mofo in a few years now, last time I think was when he drove me to Madball's last show (3rd or 4th time they quit) at CB's. Also, ate at the Roselle Diner with Dan Murray, Ian, and the many interchangeable parts of One4One numerous times. These were all of my friends from the younger angrier years of Mr. ChuteBoxe.
My brother-in-law still goes to shows all the time. He's the founder of IDS, which if you know, includes EGH, Sworn Enemy, 36DF, etc...
Cool to see we have some family on SBR.

Reagan Youth was absolutely not the same without Dave. You didn't really realize it when he was alive, but after his death, it became clear that he was the heart and soul of the band. Too bad you don't have PM's. I'm almost positive we either know each other, or if not, definitely know the same people. I'm not about to throw out my name on the msg board, but if you were still around in 1995-1998, I sang vocals for Lost Blood, and then Everyone Bleeds Red.

I am friends with Dan4one (Murray). He is good friend with a guy that used to do cd layouts for me. I ran a label ( sadistic records) from 1997 -2005. Had 23 releases including compilations with one4one and a lot of the nj and ny hardcore bands. A ton of Long Island bands. Shoot me a pm I have about 2000 new cds in my garage. I will send you a few for free.

Yeah same here about the name thing , you remember Jimmy the Greek?
When they did that interview after a show in the meetpacking district?
Yeah, I remember Jimmy The Greek. If I'm not mistaken, he was good friends with some of the heads in my brother in law's crew, and he also posted on the hardcore message board that was owned by Vic with the rest of us. Remember that? And the AOL Hardcore Chatroom in the mid 90's? Btw, I loved that Subhumans tape.

I'm a youngin. I'm about to turn 26. I actually got into hardcore at 9 years old when I was dragged to a show by my friend's cousin, who was in Altercation at the time. Went every weekend since then, up until I was about 21. So if you remember a skinny little 9-10 year old kid, with a yankee hat, going off, that was me, lol.

I did have a Black Flag t, but I think I know who you're talking about also. My memory is half f*ckin shot, I missed that whole sXe concept completely, but he was someone's little brother, sorta how Freddy from Madball got into hardcore because his older brother was Roger from Agnostic Front. Hopefully it will come to me. At one point I had blonde spikes, sorta like liberty spikes, but shorter. Then, I shaved my head, and it's been like that ever since. Remembering back, some of my shirts at the time consisted of pretty much anything my friends gave me for free. I was poor back then. Agnostic Front, One4One, Madball, NJBL, Skarhead, Altercation, Blind Society, The Casualties, etc...

No disrespect but the real scene wasnt about drugs kid.
It was about keeping your honor and fighting drugs and trying to give something back to the community.
Some people just never got it , some people were only in it to be drunk and loud , or cus they wanted to fight.
I can give you some good bands to listen to and they will open your mind up a bit , about how this scene started

If this sheeit is all you need to bang your head, then your standards are too low.
Nothing beats good vocals and plugging into a marshall stack.

I honestly gave a ton of respect to the kids who were able to keep their edge after years. Unfortunately, many of the kids wound up breaking it, in the middle to late 90's. How about Toby from H2O though? The f*ckin numbnuts has sXe tattooed all over his body, and he broke his edge years ago.

I understand how many people would just see this as headbangers.
But when you meet guys that are like you , that they share everything they have cause you have nothing and you sleep in the streets taking turns who is awake to watch out and still trying to fight drugs and crime in your community if thats what headbanger is to .
Then im proud to be a headbanger

If the only thing you take from this thread, between me, sslp, and Illini, is these next few words, you're starting to have a clue about what NYHC/NJHC was about in those times...
"Hardcore was NOT just about the music, it was a way of life."
