It's worse than that. There are huge proven oil reserves on US federal land. And even larger reserves offshore. Most countries would form a national oil company and develop these reserves in partnership with experienced oil companies. The benefits are obvious. Lower dependence on MidEast oil. Help the balance of payments deficit and the trade deficit. Add revenues to the treasury so that taxes can be reduced.

Why does the United States not do this? Just take a look a the Senators who vote to continue the moratorium on oil exploration and drilling year after year and see who their big contributers are. Either oil companies or fronts for oil companies. The DemoCong have a hysterical hatred for oil exploration. Could it be that they are getting paid well to think that way?

Arabs in the ME don't lack money either. What they do lack, however, is a full-fledged lobbying organization. I disagree that the goal of the oil lobby is to secure a profit. Since our enemies have such a huge presence in that lobby and access to oil is a national security issue and the Congress has been bribed to pretty much forbid exploration and drilling of new fields anywhere in the US or offshore, their goal is obviously to jeopardize our national security.

I have been waiting for 4 days now to get an explanation on how a country with 1/10th the army of Iran that doesn't share a border, is surrounded by hostile countries, is 1000 miles apart from Iran, has no capability to attack by sea undetected will be able to declare war and attack Iran without any help from the United States. This is the same country that couldn't defend itself from conventional hit or miss scud missiles launched from the bed of trucks and needed help from US (not that the Patriot system was dependable to begin with).

I remember watching Al Manar in 03' and they were showing the Isreali Army firing bullets at the only building left of Arafat's compound... They claimed he was inside but after bombing most of the compound they just fire bullets at what they claim was the only building left and that he was in it... They didn't kill him OF COURSE and to boot... when he became seriously ill a few years later the Isreali's not only didn't just let him die but he was flown to a French hospital for immediate care...
