#283Every last one of you fukkers has to come down to Costa Rica!!!!! I promise you - you WILL have the time of your life! I moved down here back in 2004, and I still love this damn place. It's like one big playground. Period. End of story. Just bite the bullet. Save up the airfare, no matter how you have to do it.
Marriott Los Suenos is this awesome little resort right on the ocean. It has a really good golf course, and it's minutes from Jaco. Jaco is THE beach party town in Costa Rica. PLENTY of women and whatever substances you desire. It's simply not possible for you to go back to your hotel room without a woman, unless you are hellbent against it. I don't care how strong you think you are - you will not be able to resist these sexy latinas. No way, no how.
The fishing is awesome. The tourist activities are so fun. Jaco has hanggliding, paragliding, ATV tours, canopy tours, parasailing, fishing, rappelling, etc. A few hours away, there's some awesome white water rafting that simply HAS to be done. I'm telling you guys - you will fall in love with Costa Rica - the exact same way that I did almost 7 years ago, and the same way that I'm sure the SBR guys did as well. Just trust me on this one - you WILL have the fukkin time of your lives.
Just remember that popular Las Vegas saying... "What happens in vegas, stays in vegas". Yah well, Vegas ain't got shit on Costa Rica!המוסד

Thanks chillidog but how expensive is it to even live there? I know the weather is good year round which sounds good and that is no problem with me. I am not much into drugs so there is no concern for me at all there. I know that there is plenty to do there and all but I would think it is downright expensive to live in Costa Rica and the wages may not pay well and I don't know about the health care on how good it is there either. It sounds fantastic to be able to even have a chance to go there but I do have some big things going on here right now that may prevent me from going on a vacation to there but I sure would like to go if I can afford it then. The months ahead will tell me if I can. If they do give us till June 1st to get everything together with air flights and reservations for it then it will probably give me time and then I hope that my business that I have here don't conflict with the trip then I am good to go. I say the next three months will tell me a lot of what is going to happen with me. Thanks chillidog for giving me some info about how things are there.
Personally, I live on about $2,000 a month. I live very well, and eat out several times a week. It's really up to your lifestyle. If you're used to a $5,000/month lifestyle, then that's what it'll cost you. It's all up to how you want to live.
As far as health care - Costa Rica has universal health care for residents. There is also a really good private health care system, comparable to US standards. I have experience with both types, and I vastly prefer the private health care system, but I won't complain too much, considering the public health care system is 100% free.Comment -

#288Being brutally honest, as a tourist, you will probably be disappointed. I've had the stuff that they give tourists, and while it is nice, it's not the same shit that's straight off the boat. It's not rocked up, it's fluffy-powdery, almost like snow, and you can tell that it's been stepped on. Yah, it's nice, sure, and it's better than I've had in the states, but I'm not from Cali, and I didn't have the connects that you seem to have. You'll enjoy it, yah, but probably not as much as you like your shit from Cali.Comment -

I am going to be exploring the dark side of CR where there are no tourists and no English is spoken. I did this in Columbia and it made the trip well worth it.. One of the craziest times I have ever had in my life was on a 2 day Molly/Ya bender deep in Belize..... Lucky to have gotten out of the area in one piece but loved the chaos I experienced....Comment -

#298chilidog how big is the country? Is it really small?
I take it as it is cheaper to live there than it is in most places here. If you can get by on $400 a month there and it takes about a $1,000 a month here then things have to be more affordable there like places to live at such as apartments. I would think that cable television and internet is probably more affordable. It is awesome to hear that you can work in a call center taking bets for a good wage so if someone here wanted to go work in that business it probably wouldn't be a problem. I would say that cell phones should be a good price there also. I take it as gasoline is probably higher but you don't have to travel very much though. How about Wal Mart or Costco are they there?Comment -

Now, $400/month is not American standards. I live pretty nice on $2k/month. Cable TV and internet is more expensive. I have 4mb down/756 up, and it costs me $150/month. I also have digital cable, but most channels are in spanish. There's maybe 15 channels in english.
Cell phones themselves are expensive. Electronics will typically cost double what they do in the states. But the service itself is very cheap. Gas is also pretty high. WalMart does own several stores here, but they're not called WalMart. The employees wear the blue Walmart vests with the Walmart nametags, lol, but the store itself isn't called WalMart.
Yah, CR does take a little bit to get used to. This is definitely a "hurry up and wait" society. Nobody is in rush to get anything done, so if you have that type of personality, then CR is not for you. If you can go with the flow, and aren't in a rush to get anything done, then CR is perfect. Personally, I procrastinate on everything, and I'm always late, so I fit in with Costa Rica perfectly.Comment -

#301Try skyscanner.com... It's a flight search aggregator that allows you to search a block of flights up to a year period from multiply locations... NY to Costa Rica wasn't a particularly well searched route (they pull their prices from previous searches I believe) but doing a quick search there for Weds. Aug 17th returning on the next Weds. returned a ticket through cheapoair.com for $372...
Another tip is to go wikipedia page for the main airport in San Jose and search individual sites of all airlines listed there... I just came back from Israel and ortiz/kayak was showing over a dime for a one way flight... Searching individual airlines I was able to get a ticket through a budget airline from Tel Aviv to London (easyjet) for ~$180 and second ticket for ~$240 from London to New York (via an airline called Iceland Express)... Neither of these airlines had flights listed on Orbitz...thanks

#303I am going to make it a point to finally get Bobby "SBR Mod King" laid for the first time in his life. I don't know if he will be honest about it happening so I will view the process. I will pay the hyna to molest and take care of Bobby and I will be in the room while I am banging my hyna at the same time. I will be keeping my eye on Bobby and I will make sure I see the insertion of the shaft into the hyna and once Bobby releases I will be making a thread on SBR. This will be a nationally holiday on SBR, the day that Bobby finally releases in or on a real live firme hyna!המוסד

#307Local food is mainly meat (fish, chicken, or beef), rice and beans, and a salad, but everything is available here. They love them some gringo fast food, lol. Mcdonalds, taco bell, KFC, pizza hut, burger king, subway, quiznos, applebees, the list goes on and on. That's San Jose, though. In Jaco, where the bash will be at, there's a KFC, pizza hut, and a subway I think. But plenty of really good restaurants, and some awesome fish tacos. The seafood is very fresh, and really, really good.
