I know SBR is picking up the tab on the rooms but like it's been discussed, you should have to give a current CC deposit. SBR should also verify the card and make sure the CC # is real so people aren't confirming with just any # with the right amount of digits. Make sure they are the card holder and have the poster be serious about going. I think there is going to be tons of people saying they are going but when it's all said and done it will be a smaller turnout. Nothing wrong with that at all though, I will be there and looking forward in seeing that area.

The airfare i found is less than $50 more than to vegas. I think the last time I flew to vegas it was $368. I found $396 to SJO CR.

When we did travel little league baseball we would get a block of rooms at a certain rate set aside.
You had to call and reserve your room with your CC to secure your own room.
IF you showed up the room was paid by partly bu the team's fund raising.
John could do something like that have a group number and members have so long to call them and give CC numbers to secure your room and they would have to cancel there room by a certain date to not be charged. Then when we show up in Costa Rica John could just pay for the rooms of people that show up. IF people NO Show its on them. Just like when you reserve a room by CC but pay with cash when you leave.

I think you're right; there won't be close to how many there were at the 2010 BASH (200 ppl?). I'm guessing around 50-60 ppl will eventually end up going. Me personally, I plan on going with 2 or 3 of my friends (2 of them are members but never post), but I don't know for sure ( I would probably make it a sure thing if I got the plane reimbursement

).

I predict an all time low turnout this year.

50% of the posters who normally go will not pay the extra $ to fly down there.

Of the 50% who would, 80% of those will not or can not get a passport.

Of the 10% left, 90% of those do not have, or have maxed out their credit cards, so they can not hold a room. Hopefully they will have a lot of SBR points.

Of the 1% left, some will be afraid of getting arrested and thrown in a 3rd world country jail! (like me)

It all sounds like a wonderful time, but the fact is, it will be a low turnout this year!

Yeah I just checked the distance between Liberia and San Jose....it's a 3.5-4 hour drive.

Non-stop flight out of Newark for apx. $500

5 hours and 15 minute flight! Not bad, almost same time as flight to Vegas!

For those of you who havent been to CR... its a fantasy land. I will be there for sure. Probably start off on the 19th, and stay a few days after in jaco, maybe head down to manuel antonio for a day or so.

For all the activities that SBR is paying for, just think of it like a subsidized vacation. Well worth the trip (as long as the new road is open when we head on over to Los Suenos).

definitely need some information on what is going on sunday with the fishing. Not a lot of choices for a flight out of costa rica later in the day(sunday) unless I want a 3 stop 14hour over nighter

what dates? cheapest I can find is $548 out of all NYC area airports leaving on the 19th

I think with all the taxes it was $548 as you state.

Try skyscanner.com... It's a flight search aggregator that allows you to search a block of flights up to a year period from multiply locations... NY to Costa Rica wasn't a particularly well searched route (they pull their prices from previous searches I believe) but doing a quick search there for Weds. Aug 17th returning on the next Weds. returned a ticket through cheapoair.com for $372...

Another tip is to go wikipedia page for the main airport in San Jose and search individual sites of all airlines listed there... I just came back from Israel and ortiz/kayak was showing over a dime for a one way flight... Searching individual airlines I was able to get a ticket through a budget airline from Tel Aviv to London (easyjet) for ~$180 and second ticket for ~$240 from London to New York (via an airline called Iceland Express)... Neither of these airlines had flights listed on Orbitz...

Every last one of you fukkers has to come down to Costa Rica!!!!! I promise you - you WILL have the time of your life! I moved down here back in 2004, and I still love this damn place. It's like one big playground. Period. End of story. Just bite the bullet. Save up the airfare, no matter how you have to do it.

Marriott Los Suenos is this awesome little resort right on the ocean. It has a really good golf course, and it's minutes from Jaco. Jaco is THE beach party town in Costa Rica. PLENTY of women and whatever substances you desire. It's simply not possible for you to go back to your hotel room without a woman, unless you are hellbent against it. I don't care how strong you think you are - you will not be able to resist these sexy latinas. No way, no how.

The fishing is awesome. The tourist activities are so fun. Jaco has hanggliding, paragliding, ATV tours, canopy tours, parasailing, fishing, rappelling, etc. A few hours away, there's some awesome white water rafting that simply HAS to be done. I'm telling you guys - you will fall in love with Costa Rica - the exact same way that I did almost 7 years ago, and the same way that I'm sure the SBR guys did as well. Just trust me on this one - you WILL have the fukkin time of your lives.

Just remember that popular Las Vegas saying... "What happens in vegas, stays in vegas". Yah well, Vegas ain't got shit on Costa Rica!
