Umpires trends

i'm i the only guy that follows the umpire trends here ?

i just started looking at some of these old UMP stats. i noticed there are a few umpires that really seem favor a few pitchers out there.

heres a nice one i found i'll use for example:

Randy Johnson has a unbelievable W-L record when Tony Randazzo is calling the game behind the plate. he has like a 16-1 record.

Where are you getting the stats, Dan? I've kept some but they're still pretty crude and would love to look at others.

There are at least two of us who follow umpire news and info. I've been umpiring myself, albeit youth leagues, for a while now. Have a 'kid' who's up the road in college right now helping me this year, and he's already been accepted into a post-college umpire school (Wendlestedt) beginning sometime in '07.

One trend I started to track last season was with regards to the old 'getaway games.' Those contests, that went 9 innings, were almost 10 minutes shorter in 2006. Shorter games are, many times, evidence of larger strike zones. At least that's my conclusion.

There was a story about the old man Doug Harvey when he worked his last game in '92. It was at the Astrodome and Harvey reportedly told the HOU and LA lineup delivery boys, "Tell your hitters to be swinging today. I don't plan to work overtime in my last game."

The game lasted 1:44 on the clock and the 'Stros shut LA out, 3-0. Just two walks and 21 K's in the contest.

believe it or not willie bee, i perty much know alot of this stuff off the top of my head. although, i do have a nice data base i can refer too if i don't know the answer.

These sites may be of some interest. Obviously there not as good as having your own database. Covers lets you look back to '99. Which is nice for totals. As for trying to find something about certain umps and pitchers. Fiest's site has that info for someone willing to break it down. The problem is it's only for the past season.

if I bet baseball, I'd definitely pay attention to these trends...

this is the type of stuff alot of people just don't pay attention too. hell who knows, it could be the deciding factor in a game your seriously considering betting on one night.

Since I mainly bet overnight I don't follow these trends.

you just might want to ILL. it could really help you a great deal when pouncing on an overnite line.

Murray, in his book writes that bob mcune would add or subtract half a run from his projected total when a biased umpire was behind the plate
