    Any Gold Experts here?
I have some Gold chains and gold earrings from a while back that I've had in my dresser drawer for quite some time.

I keep hearing every day how Gold is worth so much more now then it was a few years ago.. If I post some pictures of the Gold I have, could someone here tell me approx how much it's worth?

    Thanks in advance.

You have to know what carrot it is. I believe 24 CT is solid gold. Most chains use to be 12K. Nobody is gonna be able to tell what it is worth. You have to weigh it also. Plus you also have to see if it is real. There use to be some type of chemical you could put on it to tell. Are we selling stuff because of bad investments in the gaming business? Find someone that knows what he or she is doing or you are gonna get ripped off.

What makes you assume that? I thought my original post pretty much summed it up. Have had this gold for quite some time and heard Value of Gold has skyrocketed recently.

Chains I have are 14K from Italy. Had these checked a long time ago and was told they were real Gold.

Just like to know where I stand with these.

            Same goes for silver.

I had a box of what looked like sterling silver silverware and it wasn't magnetic and it didn't say the word sterling on it.It was tarnished though like silver.I brought them to a reputable coin dealer and he gave me the bad news they weren't sterling silver.Sterling has alloys in it where it's about 90% silver but the value when selling it is much cheaper than pure silver.Be careful these days that you don't get ripped off by pawn shops and the dealers that show up at Holiday Inn's for a couple days placing ads in your area newspapers buying gold, silver and diamonds. There are so many desperate people who will sell their stuff for a fraction of the price not knowing what they have. Some of the dealers will say that your stuff is full af alloys when it's not.Same goes for diamonds and gems. They will say they are low grade with inclusions and are opaque when they are nearly flawless so it's best to get them appraised by a gemologist if you think they are valuable.A gemologist can probably just eye it over and know what he's dealing with as far as value is concerned. Then if it's a good one,he will do the whole report on it and give you an appraisal certificate and if that's the case, paying the gemologist's fee is worth it.

Most jewelry is made with 14 carat gold not to cheapen it,but to make it durable and strong. If you had skinny pure gold chains they would be too soft and fall apart.

I worked in a gold refinery for four years. Most Jewelry is gold plated so the actual value isn't that much. Pure gold jewelry is fairly heavy, but the really valuable stuff is the gold proof which generally is not used for jewelry. Gold is weighted in troy ounces. The earrings may be worth something, the chains I think not. Unless you have a fair ammount of reclaim gold {at least .5 toz} a refinery would not be interested. There is one in downtown L.A. Contact them and ask.
