    I just got E-F**ked by Turbo-Tax
I got this trial version in the mail that said that I could fill out the taxes and print it out for free.

Yeah right, the free version is for the EZ form. I kind of expected this. I have all kinds of crap for my taxes and usually do it through some dude, who f**ks me right there in the office, but at least I get a reach around. Back to the story. The CD directs me to get the Premier edition because I have a butt load of stock purchases, sales and property in other states, almost everthing except gambling claims Hehe. It goes to a web site downloads a trial premier edition and I'm off and running. After two hours of this stuff I'm done and ready to e-file. Well of course it won't do this until I buy it so if autimatically sent me to a web site to purchase the $50.00 version. On the web site it clearly states that the first e-file is free for both Federal and State tax filings. So I buy it and when I go to e-file it wants another $18.00 to file or I can spend $30.00 of my refund to e-file. I then log on tech support with Asif the problem solver, and he says that since I origianlly started with a free version that was mailed to me, I'm f**ked and please now go pound sand up my ass.

So this is your warning that the free Turbo Tax you get in the mail ain't free.

That's what I usually do, but the wife convinced me to do it this way. Never again, first of all I had to think, and second if I get audited, before I could hold the preparing agency responsible. I doubt Turbo-Tax will do that.

Yes sir, it does everything. Although in your situation I would suggest going to a professional..

But yes it asks 100s of questions.

O.K. I figure F**k it now it's only another 18 bucks, and I can get the dough in about a week. So I chunk out the money and it tells me I can't file this way because of some electronically unverifiable Shit. So to recap. I got e-f**ked but really only let them stick the cap in, then decided for the entire 12 afterwards, and still no reach around or even a telephone number.

Anyone getting a refund has planned poorly.

If you have all those investments, pony up, tell the wife to get back to cooking dinner and pay a bit of money to have your taxes done correctly. Why do people like to make life more difficult for themselves?

Agreed. We just about nailed our withholdings this year; owe $429-something. Think the closest we've come is owing $318. Never do calculate the wife's free flights she gets through her work that eventually get taxed as income. But durito's right -- if you're getting a refund of more than about $500, you should have a little less withheld throughout the year.

No reason to give the gov't an interest free loan all year on your money. Put it to work somewhere else -- though perhaps for a gambler that's not a good idea

Sad thing is Mr Durito the IRS is as much part of the U,S, Government as you are a member of the Miami Dolphins.....
www.freedomtofascism.com THE IRS is a bunch of thugs. Illegal organization that high jacked this great country of ours way back when. I hope to see the day when a true leader of this once great nation gets us back to the gold standard and stops taxing Labor Wages like a terrorist high-jacking an aircraft. The IRS need to GO!!!!!!

I don't know how you can accurately estimate your withholdings with capital gains or losses, plus I like to get back a couple of grand at the end of the year. I really don't notice the difference in the withholdings thru out the year. I will concede that letting the government hold onto my money all year interest free is probably not the best either.

Capital gains do throw a wrench in the equation, but you can estimate for that.

It sounds like you have a fairly complicated return. In that case I'd highly recommend finding a competent professional CPA to do your taxes. The cost is worth it (assuming they do in fact know what they are doing).
