tough question its a very hard position and takes alot of intangeables besides talent. There are no more 10 solid QB in the NFL. Top qb's get drafted by bad teams and lose confidence by getting thrown into the fire to early. IDKComment -

Because if there are more good QB's means there are more bad defenses. If more bad defenders are drafted in the future drafts you will see more good QB's. It's much easier to become a good QB when you are facing no pressure in the pocket and your receivers are wide open due to bad defenders.Comment -

Mostly all other positions players continually improve because of their sheer athleticism, more intense workouts, nearly everything nowadays is higher in quality. That's the generational gap at work, of course you had older guys that could out-perform some of these youngsters today, but for the most part guys are bigger, stronger, faster today.
The one position, aside from kicking, where a player does not typically benefit from being bigger, stronger, and faster is a QB. A QB has to be smart to begin with, beyond that he needs to have developed properly and being in the right system for him helps too. It is the most important position in a team game, a position where not making mistakes is more important than your natural athleticism, reading defenses, complex schemes, disguised packages etc. He has to be solid at all that, a smart guy with all the intangibles, and he needs to be protected and have weapons around him. That's a lot of stuff that needs to go right for a QB to shine. Look at Marc Bulger, the guy could easily be Peyton Manning like but his offensive line can't keep him upright- the guy will be forced into early retirement without protection.Comment -

that doesnt make sense at all...ALL positions have improved over the years...even the best defenses in the league could give up 28 points on any given night...and there is not a correlation between the quality of positions drafted and the successes they have in the future. thats the art of the draft...Comment -
A theory I have heard which may hold some truth is a lot of your QBs coming out of college with gaudy numbers are more or less "system QBs" running more and more spread offenses. There is less time spent teaching them solid fundamentals and more time spent learning their spread system.Comment -
i think here are a lot of good qb's in the nfl, just not a lot of great qb's. you can't really win without a GREAT qb unless you have an unstoppable defense or some special playmakersComment -
All NFL QBs are system QBs. Sure, Brady & Peyton are great, but they've got great players around them, most notably they've got great lines. Not to mention great franchises that can put quality players and coaches all around them. There are some other NFL teams where these two guys would struggle.
Bulger is an excellent example. What good is a pro bowl QB that is on the injured list. How about Trent Green? He was top tier until he got his head knocked off a couple season ago.
QBs are under the crosshairs and prone to injury except in the best NFL offensive systems.
Another thing is that no rookie QB can come into the league and be an instant success. Even guys like Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning struggled as rookies, and these two are probably the most notable rookie QBs I can think off the top of my head. QB is one position where a player doesn't really get comfortable until their 3rd or 4th year in the league. Even then, they've had to come up in a decent system.Comment -
The game has evolved , it harder on the QBs beacuse they have scouts and people studying their every move on the field.
Of course there Joe Montanas , Dan Marinos , back in da day but there werent many Ashante Samuels around.. there were no Polamal whatever the steelers hippie dude , the game is tougher now in several ways but in my opinion you put a Brady 30 years ago, he wouldnt have lasted a season one good hit from Dick Butkus and he is bye byeComment -
