I've got to find the exact quote, have the entire interview on some old VHS tape somewhere. But back in the early 90s on one of ESPN's Sunday Night Conversations, Dan Patrick interviewed Bill Murray who is one of the biggest Cubs fans around. And he described Caray as something like a test cow on drugs with a massive tongue.
As hard as he was to listen to rambling on and on sometimes, Caray did provide the occasional chuckle butchering player names, especially Latinos.Comment -

We had Hallsey Hall in Minnesota in the 60's for the Twins who was better.
This old,old geezer named Hallsey Hall broadcast games for the Twins when I was a kid and he was a Minnesota legend.He honestly just spouted off without thinking what he was saying and almost in every game he would come up with a memorable line.When I saw that movie Best of Show where Fred Willard played the dog show color guy I thought of Hall.Man that Fred Willard was funny in that movie.
The best one was when he saw this teenage boy and girl making out in the stands at old Metropolitan outdoor stadium where the Mega Mall now sits.He said,I see a pattern forming where he kisses her on strikes and she kisses him on the balls.
He would never catch on and laugh at his mistakes but when another guy in the crew would say something funny or if something funny took place on the field, the whole inning would be over by the time he got done laughing.He looked and sounded like a combination of Minnesota Fats Edgar Buchanon who played Uncle Joe on Petticoat Junction and was a character actor you saw on everything back in the day.
I had an uncle that owned a little Goober's filling station and repair shop near the stadium which used to be set almost in farm fields back then that used to do play by play for the local farm town high school games and I used to get tons of Twins promotional stuff that would be worth a fortune on E-bay but ended up in bike spokes,thrown away shoe boxes.etc.Rats!The Twins were a pretty fun team to follow in the 60's and they had allot of characters.
They had a bomb threat called in at the beginning of the game and the famous character PA announcer panicked and starting yelling about a bomb and everyone scattered out of the stadium and the players including the catcher,George Mitterwald in full gear were seen drinking at the bar of the Thunderbird hotel next to the stadium.That's where Sallinger came up with his novel ,Catcher in the Rye.hehe!That's the same bar where former Twins manager Billy Martin beat up a marshmellow salesman.Comment
