    A domestic ferret
    Conservation status
    Domesticated
    Scientific classification
    Kingdom: Animalia
    Phylum: Chordata
    Class: Mammalia
    Order: Carnivora
    Family: Mustelidae
    Genus: Mustela
    Species: M. putorius
    Subspecies: M. p. furo
    Trinomial name
    Mustela putorius furo
    (Linnaeus, 1758)
In general use, a ferret is a domestic ferret (Mustela putorius furo). Domestic ferrets typically have brown, black, white, or mixed fur, have an average length of approximately 20 inches (51 cm) including a 5 inch (13 cm) tail, weigh about 2 pounds (1 kg),[1] and have an ordinary lifespan of 7 to 10 years.[2][3][4]
Several other small, elongated carnivorous mammals belonging to the family Mustelidae (weasels) also have the word "ferret" in their common names, including anendangered species, the Black-footed Ferret. The ferret is a very close relative of the polecat, but it is as yet unclear whether it is a domesticated form of the European Polecat, the Steppe Polecat, or some hybrid of the two.
The history of the ferret's domestication is uncertain, like that of most other domestic animals. It is very likely that ferrets have been domesticated for at least 2,500 years, but it is not certain for what purpose the ferret was originally domesticated. It is known though that the Romans used ferrets for hunting rabbits. They are still used for that purpose in some parts of the world today, but increasingly they are being kept simply as pets.
Being so closely related to polecats, ferrets are quite easily able to hybridize with them, and this has occasionally resulted in feral colonies of ferret polecat hybrids that have been perceived to have caused damage to native fauna, perhaps most notably in New Zealand. As a result, some parts of the world have imposed restrictions on the keeping of ferrets.

Interesting first post, Dougless. I'm not a biologist or zoologist or whatever, but I can tell you that if you stick around this place you'll soon run into just about all species of internet fauna and flora that inhabit the cyberworld. We've got humans from several steps in the evolution process, snakes and other reptiles, some creepy crawly things that I just lump together and call spiders, cute little furry kittens, big dogs, small dogs, even some prehistoric creatures long thought extinct, plus a few veggies to boot.

Blame it on the Miami Dolphins I always refer to them as the fish rather then dolphins sounds better then calling them mammals

What he said. Dude give up gambling and take a science class, even if it doesn't help, it certainly won't hurt. Since your so good at wikipedia why not look up mammal and you'll find:

Mammals (class Mammalia) are warm-blooded, vertebrate animals characterized by the presence of sweat glands, including milk producing sweat glands, and by the presence of: hair, three middle ear bones used in hearing, and a neocortex region in the brain. Also all mammals, other than the monotremes, give birth to live young instead of laying eggs. Most mammals also possess specialized teeth and utilize a placenta in the ontogeny. The mammalian brain regulates endothermic and circulatory systems, including a four-chambered heart. Mammals encompass approximately 5,400 species (including humans), ranging in size from the Bumblebee Bat, (30-40mm), to the Blue Whale, (33,000mm), distributed in about 1,200 genera, 153 families, and 29 orders,[1] though this varies by classification scheme.

Most mammals belong to the placental group. The four largest orders within the placental mammals are Rodentia (mice, rats, and other small, gnawing mammals), Chiroptera (bats), Carnivora (dogs, cats, bears, and other mammals that primarily eat meat), and Cetartiodactyla (including numerous herbivore species, such as deer, sheep, goats, and buffalos, plus whales).
