How are mail-in rebates still even needed? If I buy a phone from Verizon, a company with all this cutting-edge technology, you still have to send a mail-in rebate to get $50 back.

Obviously they hope a percentage of people don't bother and some won't. But why all the games?

for that exact reason. give people this sense of getting something for cheap/free and then when they don't send it in/lose it, they laugh all the way to the bank.

to make it look like a great offer but in truth not many do it. so it increases sales and doesn't cut so much off their profit

I love mail in rebates.. especially the ones for Anheuser-Busch. It's only $6 and really $5 and some change after the stamp but you pair that up with buying a 30 pack of bud light on sale at Rite Aid or CVS then you got a deal.

I got 4 mailing addresses so I do it 4 times per promotional period.

Right now I have Tecate mail in rebates but that's not my drink.. but eventually I'll use them because sometimes I can get a 30 pack for $15

48% of the customers don't actually send the rebate in, for Verizon at least.

That's why they do it. They are also able to offer "better deals" because they know the return will be there from the non-mailed rebates.
