Everyone thinks they know what's gonna happen tonight... but the fact is no one really has a clue. The Vikings are coming off a bye, will they be "rested" or "rusty"? Revis and Pace will be back for the Jets defense, are they healthy or just playing because its Monday Night? Randy Moss is exactly what the Vikings needed, a deep threat to compliment Peterson and Shiancoe, will he be in sync with Favre or will Favre try to hard to get him the ball? Add to this you have two of the biggest Hit-or-Miss quarterbacks in Sanchez and Favre... Anything can happen tonight so if you win your bet tonight dont think your the next Rudy Ruetigger...
But there are some things you can look for and maybe take advantage of at halftime...
Jets on Offense:
First off, lets get this out the way.. The only real defense these guys have seen is the Ravens and they scored 9 points off them so lets not get too excited about these guys just yet. The dolphins have 2 guys (V.Davis and C.Wake) that are future stars but they cant be considered a top notch defense just yet.
Sanchez to me is much like a robot, when things go as planned he looks like a well oiled machine, but when a linebacker comes from out of nowhere or a d-lineman drops somewhere he didnt expect this guy all of a sudden is like a deer in headlights. If I was gonna play against this guy Id bring a different blitz every other play and keep this over rated "wonder boy" thinking on every play.. Something tells me the Vikes wont do this though..
I think the Viking are going to rely on their great run defense up front, not over commit to the run and essentially take away the play-action pass from the Jets. What the jets usually do is run the ball to set up play-action with an "easy" read throw for their young QB. This wont work tonight, the Vikings great run defense will allow them "sit back" and make the youngster go through his reads.. it should be fun to find out how well he does, especially if the Vikings get an early lead and Sanchez is forced to throw.. I think he will struggle if this is the case.
Ofcourse, if the Jets run the ball effectively in the first half you can throw all this out the window and expect a 10+ point win..
Vikings On Offense:
Its no secret the Jets like to come after you.. and with Brett Favre under center for the Vikings you can expect some crazy plays tonight. You are gonna see some great plays, and you're gonna see some "what the fukk was he thinking?" type plays. This is what makes Favre so "great". Personally, I think the guy is a little over rated and loses a lot of games that get swept under the rug by the media, but you cant deny the fact that he can burn you if you give him the chance.. Something that I think he will do to the Jets tonight.
Favre...Moss...Peterson...Shiancoe.... as much as you losers want to blow Rex Ryan and his defense, you have to admit that they're not going to completely shut down these four guys. Sure the Jets will bring pressure with some well thought out blitzes and schemes.. But do you really think Bret Fukkin Favre hasnt seen this shit before? He isnt Jay Cutler, he knows how to handle a blitz and hit a hot receiver.
As I've said before, most running backs and wide receivers are a diamond dozen (Courtesy JJGold). However, Adrien Peterson and Randy Moss are they exception to this rule. They have game changing talent that comes around once a decade or so.. Many have overlooked how powerful this combo can be..
There are three things that beat a good blitzing defense...
1. Scheme (unknown)
2. Quick thinking QB (Favre)
3. Talent (Peterson, Moss, Shiancoe)
Peterson and Moss fall under the "talent" category.. The Jets can get away blitzing and going nuts against the Buffalo bills and the Miami dolphins, but if they make a mistake tonight it will cost them seven points instead of a first down. The Jets might be forced to play a more "straight up" style defense. If this is the case the Vikings will score rather easily tonight. Another thing to look for during the first half...
Summary:
If the Vikings can stop the run early with just their base front it could easily turn into a Vikings blowout. I want to take the Vikings moneyline but you never know with Favre so Im going to take the 4.5 points. This is just a small play so dont get bent out of shape if the Jets get lucky and win by a TD.
Will be back at half with a play if something looks good..
