ATLANTIC CITY — Tropicana security helped capture a suspect who robbed a Tropicana patron a few hours after robbing another patron at a neighboring casino, police said.
Steven McGuire, 61, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was beaten and robbed as he was taking an elevator from the gaming floor to his room at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino at about 3 a.m. Thursday, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.
The suspect fled with $7,000 — $5,000 of it in casino chips. McGuire refused medical attention, but was hospitalized at about 11:15 a.m. due to injuries sustained in the assault, McMenamin said. He was admitted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, for treatment of a head wound.
Trump Plaza security had video of the suspect, which was made into a still shot by Atlantic City Forensics Detective Edward Nistico. The photo was distributed to area casino security.
Security officers at Tropicana Casino and Resort answered the call, saying they had a suspect matching the photo who had taken chips from a patron.
Hosameldin Ismail, 22, of Brooklyn, had been arrested at about 1 p.m. by State Police with the Division of Gaming Enforcement, who patrol the casinos’ gaming floors, and charged with theft and released on a summons. Atlantic City police then took custody of him, and he was charged with robbery and aggravated assault.
He is being held on $100,000 bail.
