Who introduced YOU to sports betting?
For me it was 8 years ago in college when a friend and I would watch NBA ball on the tube. He would always wager on the spread and was a consistent loser. He started showing me what he was doing on Sportsbook.com and I started giving him suggestions on what he should bet. He started winning on point totals and I soon got sucked in. I win on a dam good streak in the beginning (like most of us do) and won about a couple of dimes. That was big money for me back then in college and I soon got sucked in. Sportsbook.com was a piece of shit by the way with payouts so I left that trash and started dealing with a local and 5Dimes. He doesnt bet anymore and im still going strong.

Who introduced you and how did you get started??

I first started understanding the spreads in 8th grade playing Pigskin Pick Em on ESPN. I was picking the favorites pretty much every game and would place bets with friends here and there on certain games. Eventually when I was 16 I began betting through my first bookie. First night I bet was the Thursday opening college season. I went to a sportsbar and sat and had dinner and watched the game on a huge screen. Loved it. My first bet was for $88/$80 and I lost by 3 points. After that I went with $44/$40 on a 10:30 game and hit that one. Been winning and losing ever since.

My grandfather; when I was about 10-11, he took me to the track one Saturday. Then my dad would let me pick his spots in his office pool every nfl and nba season. Kinda just grew from there.

No one person that I can remember really. Maybe a local guy called Herman The German, but I wouldn't lay it all on him. It was all around me growing up on the southside of Chicago.

When I was 12 or 13 years old, my father used to take me with him when he went to pay his bookie every Thursday.

I finally asked him who that man in the wheelchair was.......

                                      21, track, sports betting

I played blackjack in Reno before I was old enough, did that for several years, got a job at my local track, didn't know anything about horses, started placing my own bets from my terminal, did that for a while then started playing online blackjack at www.firstlive.com if anyone remembers that abortion, then got into sports online soon after.

Prior to getting married, I made a pretty good income supplement by playing high stakes poker. Since I can no longer be away from home 3 nights a week, I took up sports betting as a way to make a little scratch. I used to play in a card game with 4 bookies. Sports is not as profitable as poker, but it pays for a couple of nice vacations every year.

Started with my dad giving me parlay cards to fill out real young, I actually picked winners when I didn't think about games all day. My uncle was a big degenerate and he explained things to me more. He was terrible though, lost thousands he didn't have, probably still does and I never thought I'd be like him but I find myself getting there.

My Dad. By the time I was about 9 or 10, he was allowing me to participate in his NHL Playoff Pools with his buddies. I always enjoyed the draft and following through the months of April and May. I remember all the details, as the pool had 16 people at $100 per person. All 16 guys had to pick one player from each team in the playoffs, and obviously once a guy was selected, no one else could have him. There was some strategy, because in cases, it was smarter to take a lower profile guy on a team poised to make a Playoff run, as you could end playing 20+ games as opposed to 4-7 games. I remember he used a BIG board that we hung up in our garage with all 16 NHL teams along the top, and the 16 participates along the right, and players filled all throughout the middle. Being back before the days of internet, we had to get the paper the next day, and manually tick the points under the players name each morning. This hung in the garage throughout the playoffs, and people came and went to check the status.

Also, for $50 additional, everyone drew a team out of a hat, and if that team won the Stanley Cup, you would $800.

Before my days of participating in the 80's...they made a rule that Gretzky was off limits, because if we drew number #1 pick, you would have Gretzky and probably win the pool.

If you include horses my first boss. Guy owned a restaurant and every summer he would close one day and take the entire staff (i was a 14yr. old dishwasher) to the track.

Kids at school. They had print out sheets of NFL lines instead of math problems.

My sister's boyfriend Maurice. I was just a lil one and it was the 1991 world series. Since I was a huge Braves fan, we made a $20 bet. When the Twins won, he came ringing the doorbell. I wasn't allowed to go outside because it was dark. My dad whooped my ass, even though I don't know if it was because I gambled, or because I lost. Took me weeks to earn $20 pickin up dog shit
