That said, I don't think Singletary is a bad team leader or a horrible coach. But you need to cover all aspects of the game, and if you can't, you have to surround yourself with a coordinating staff that can. Underperforming teams can almost always be picked apart, and many of the problems will no doubt stem right from the top.

I think you're looking in the wrong spot here. Singletary doesn't call any plays, offensively or defensively. Jimmy Raye needs to go. Gore is the best player on the team but it's kind of hard to fool the defenses when you never change your game plan. The team looks at tape and see HB dive for the first two plays of every series. The game starts and what do you know? It's Frank Gore up the middle for 2 yards for two straight plays. Then it's third and 7-8+ so teams just drop in coverage blanket Crabtree and Vernon. There is no use blaming Singletary for this. I believe they both need to go but it will only set the Niners back again. Christ they are turning into the Lions/Browns. It's gonna be another long 5-6 years.

Realistically, his record is 8-15 versus teams who have won more than 8 games in the last 2 years. The only thing that saved him were his close calls against good teams, and his ability to beat Arizona twice. There could be a case made that he is the worst coach in the worst division in football, depending on how much USC kool aid you are drinking. He is certainly the least accomplished.

The rams coach coordinated the defense that won a super bowl. The Arizona coach went to a super bowl. Carroll was head of a very good college program. Singletary almost beat Minnesota last year.

TBH, there's really not a whole lot of talent in SF. There's also no QB and really hasn't been one for a long long time. Alex Smith plays decent on Monday Night and we hear how we're 'watching him grow up'... So now the 9rs have a QB? I'm confused. It's hard to be impressed with a guy that turns the ball over in big spots with an errant pass that's gets tipped and picked.
If the 9rs had a better than 'serviceable' QB, Singletary's job wouldn't even be in question.
Also, the 9rs talent level isn't all that great. Where they are good on D, they are very good - where they are bad on D...They flat out stink. Offensively they have a lot of youth and a bruiser back. Their identity is to run the football, but they lack depth at the RB position.

Blaming Singletary for all that ails the 9rs is just dumb, imo. With all the players moving in/out of that team and their lack of depth anywhere and no QB to speak of, I think Singletary's done a good job of bringing them together to play well at times. It's just, they're lacking in the leadership/character department. Remember, the 9rs top player, Patrick Willis is still REAL young. I think their high expectations for this season are off base... It's still a team that needs to develop. I, also, thought they would've taken a step forward this year. It's still early in the season. I also think it's too early to call Singletary inept. I don't think any coach out there could've gotten more than he has out of this team. You'd have to call out the character and leadership of the players on this team right now as the real problem. I think the 9rs have better days ahead this year, but they really really need to find a QB next year.

And that's only if he changes his style. He treats players like 2 year olds. There's a reason why the story about him showing his ass at half time got out - the players think he's funny and don't take him as seriously as they should. Ever hear him talk to the players? Like they are school children. I am not in the locker room, but it appears as though he's not on the same page with the players. Looks like he may have lost the team.

Front office of SF needs to analyze this and make a move. Get him out.

Singletary was a great player, but not a good coach. Coming from a 49er fan it is clear that he is a an extraordinary MOTIVATOR. That is what he is. He is not an X's and O's type guy.

Singletary's limited success was the result of excellent drafting and acquisitions done by Mike Nolan in which now Singletary has pissed away. If you've been following the 49ers you would know Mike Nolan put together one hell of a defense and then Singletary came in. The defense is what kept the niners in the game last year and now the defense has went to shit.

After Singletary gets fired.. he will not get a head coaching job again.. book it. No owner will believe this guys words with all that added emphasis bullshit. Con artist with a cross.

Don't get me wrong.. Mike Nolan was garbage and I was thrilled to see Singletary come in. But the flavor of his kool aid is now sour and he fukked up big time by firing Mike Martz.
