    The Truth Of It All
Why do we wager on sports?
I hope your answer is the same as mine, to make money. I read in another thread, I was surprised to learn, that others like myself do not watch the games they wager on. I figure what is the point of putting myself through the ups and downs, mostly downs because you are never truly confident until it is over, just to see my team miss covering by a half point. I do not watch or check the status of the game until I am confident enough time has passed to do so.

Here is the sad truth of it all. If you are one of those lucky few who is good enough to make money wagering and are smart enough to pick the right books to use, you need many outs to be successful, they will show you the door or cut your limits down to nothing once you begin to win making it extremely difficult to succeed. This is a big reason why the books that pay stay in business, they don't let themselves get beat by sharp players and it doesn't take much to pick up that label usually just a couple of payout requests will do it. It also doesn't matter whether you are a 3 or 4 thousand dollar a play player or a 3 or 4 hundred dollar a play player they will treat you the same way. If you are good they don't want any part of you.

Now I know people are going to come back and respond by saying that such and such a book will never kick anyone out. Those books all charge 10% juice, they can afford to lose to maybe 2% of their customers because the other 98% are just turning their money over to these books. Sure you are going to have winning streaks with these places but overcoming the 10% juice will grind you down to nothing eventually. Remember it is not how much you win when you win but how much you don't lose when you lose.

One last thing why do all of the customer service people at these books wish you good luck when you deposit your money when they are counting on you losing it all.

I don't buy it. Don't books figure some people are going to beat them while the majority of others are going to lose. Why would anyone join a book that had a reputation for cutting people off once they win, isn't that the goal and don't the books realize that as well.

True. In the old days (not so long ago), a clerk could lose his job by wishing a player "Good Luck!" Years ago I saw a guy get fired in Nevada for putting the score on the board before the team made the extra point!

Solid first post. Welcome to SBR. I certainly don't find watching the games I have a bet on entertaining. They are a source of anxiety. I will be watching them less and less.
