swede96, that sounds a lot like WIC (Women Infants Children). WIC gives recipients X amount of something per month. Generally, it's baby formula that women use them for. I'm not aware of any food stamps that require you to buy certain brands or foods. They can be used on any food.

Cash welfare is handled the same way: the money is placed in the account linked to the EBT card. Unlike food stamp money, cash welfare can be withdrawn at an ATM or used on anything.

Not some p test that can be beaten, but a lab blood test and if they fail it, F em, automatic sterilization. Then maybe the cycle will be broken, and future generations wont have to foot the bill.

I saw some lady the other day buying shit and swiping the food stamp card like it was a credit card. Kind of takes the negative stigma out of it.

In reference to some recent posts on this thread, I think that people should be forced into mandatory abortions if on welfare. Bad enough that they can't pay for themselves, much less any offspring that are created. Either get off welfare or get rid of the kid. I'm not totally heartless though, the governement could hand out condoms to people on the government assistance payrole so that they might be able to avoid pregnancy, or maybe the month birth control shot like the Swedes suggest might be better, cause this would put the burden on the people who would have the potential to be kicked off of the welfare. Come to think of it therer should be a DNA test to see who the father is, so they could get kicked off to.

The resource limits for cash assistance are $250 for a single person, $1000 for a family of two or more. That's all countable assets (checking/savings accounts, cash on hand, stocks/savings bonds/IRAs [not that welfare recipients tend to have those], etc). For food stamps, I think the limit is $2000 for a family, $3000 if somebody in the household is disabled. I'm not positive what it is because hardly anybody is even close to being over the resource limit, so it's not one I have to check a lot. That's not a lot of money, especially for cash assistance.

The full cash grant in the county I work in (the grants differ by county in my state, more expensive cost-of-living counties have higher grants) for a single parent with one child is $305 per month. And that's if they have absolutely no other income. If they have any income, their cash grant is reduced. In my state, at least, welfare recipients must also sign over any child support they are receiving to the state, and the state passes on only $50/month.

Very few people on welfare are living it up.

The cash welfare cards can be used anywhere. Sure, it's their choice to go drink their life away, but not on a welfare check. Welfare checks should be spent on their children. If you're on welfare, you can't afford to go out drinking...especially at some of the over-priced bars around here. Hell, even people who aren't on welfare...if you can't keep your kids clothed, fed and warm, you have no business spending money on booze.

Shams, my reasons for supporting the idea of mandatory birth control have nothing to do with keeping the population under control. I just feel that if you need state assistance to support one child, then is seems logical that you would hold off having another one until you're back on your feet. That is, IF you're trying to get back on your feet. Hell, most of the good people on welfare would probably welcome free birth control. That shit ain't cheap. It's not about my taxes going to support a child. I have no problem with that. What I DO have a problem with is breeding a whole new generation of children that feel entitled to a goverment check every month. And there ARE people on welfare that just keep popping out kids to get more money each month and be able to stay on longer. There are crack-whores screwing anyone that will give them a fix and having very sick babies.
