Being from philly i gotta chime in on the Andy Reid at #4 there. Terrible manager of a game and is stubborn in his continuance to not run the ball enough until very recently. Then again I'm probably partial in that I'm a bitter Philly fan so my view may be different. I like...
      1. Bill Belicheck
      2. Jeff Fisher
      3. Tony Dungy--almost put him @ 2 or 4. has always had good talent around him so tough for me to judge.
      4. Jack Del Rio

He is the only coach on my list not to win a Superbowl, but I would say hes 2 or 3 in terms of consistency. Reid has only had 2 seasons under .500. One of those in his first year, and one where McNabb, Owens, Westbrook, Kearse, Dawkins, all went down in the same season. Reid has been to four NFC Championship Games and has consistently been able to get the most out of his players. He also wears the GM hat for the Eagles who have produced many pro bowlers in his time with Philly... Also doing a great job being in control of their salary cap situation better than almost any other team in the NFL.

I would definitely put Jeff Fisher in there somewhere. That guy just flat gets it done with the lowest payrolls.

                  Tony Dungy
                  Bill Belicheck
                  Jon Gruden
                  Jeff Fisher
                  Tom Coughlin

For me, putting Dungy ahead of Bill Belicheck was simply a result of the fact that BB couldn't win in Cleveland if his life depended on it. It's hard to explain how he couldn't win in CLEV and wins all the time in NE. This of course implies that he has major talent on his NE teams and organization that gets good players. Dungy, on the other hand, won when he was in TB and has won in INDY at an amazing rate. His winning rate in INDY is simply amazing (better than Belicheck's in NE) and consider he always loses the last game of the season as well. So if Belicheck is such an amazing coach...why wasn't he able to win in CLEV???

You can look at Mike Shannon as the perfect example. He could only win with a certain set of players. Belicheck is like that as well...he can only win with a certain set of players. Nothing in his past suggests he could be an elite coach anywhere outside of NE.

I am really having a hard time as to how people can put Jack Del Rio on this list. Yes, he's a good young head coach but he hasn't really done anything to warrant being on a top 5 best coaches list yet. No divsion title, no conference championship, no Super Bowl trip/win....a losing record against the best team in his division (Indianopilis). Just one playoff victory. I find it comical that someone could put Del Rio ahead of Tony Dungy in their list.

Read the book "the education of a coach". It talks about the Browns situation. He never should have taken that job. It was set up to lose from the get go. Nobody could have won in that situation, period. He had no control. The NE organization is set up on Belichick's philosophy from top to bottom, that's why he's winning there like he does. I think Dungy is top 3. Gruden got it done with Dungy's players so what does that say? Parcells couldn't get it done without Belichick either. I'm not a New England fan or really a Belichick fan either for that matter but I am a coach and read all I can get my hands on about coaches, past and present. Nobody prepares any better defensively than Belichick. On the other end Gruden and Holmgren do it best offensively. Your list altogether is solid though.

I know I bias, I just don't like Marty. You have to admit that the guy just can't buy a playoff win.
