I Love Iowa today in this spot. I know its hard to trust the Hawkeyes but they have at least shown some life this season while on the other side Michigan as been just absolutely dreadful. The Wolverines are 1-4 in conference and have lost 10 of 12 and are 5-12 overall. The only wins came against Northwestern and Oakland and their losses were to Central Michigan at home and Harvard on the road. They have very little talent to begin with and both Manny Harris and Ron Coleman are banged up and questionable to even play in todays game. Iowa is 8-10, and has lost four of their last five games. But they have beaten Michigan State and covered easily against Indiana. Something Michigan could only dream of doing this year... Until Michigan does anything at all positive this season im got no choice but to go against them. They dont deserve to be favored in this game. I really think this game should be closer to a PK.

Well, you have to take a deep breath if you want to put your money on Michigan. They've been horrible ATS covering I think just 3 games all season long. Iowa is hardly better than Michigan and I think the line is a fair price given that Iowa is the road team. Combined these teams are 7-22 ATS so this is basically a stay away game.

Michigan is pretty pathetic offensively. However, Iowa is much worse when they have the ball on offense. In terms of offensive efficiency, Iowa is near the bottom (273 out of 341 college teams respectively). On the other hand, while their offense is very poor they are much more efficient on defense (73 in the nation out of 341) while Michigan is near the bottom in that category (309 out of 341).

With all that in mind, I feel Iowa may be able to score a little bit more than they typically do. Now, The #2 defensive efficient team in the country is Wisconsin and Iowa put up 51 on them when they went to Madison earlier this month. The #309 team in defensive efficiency is Michigan. I mean Michigan is horrible on defense. Iowa should be able to put up 60 on this team and the fact that they put up 62 on Purdue (albeit at home) is a good sign offensively for this team.

If you look at Michigan inside the Big ten here is how their competition have fared against them offensively.

Wisconsin 70 points
@Purdue 65 points
Indiana 78 points
@Northwestern 68 points
@Illinois 75 points


Like I said, Iowa is pretty inefficient on offense, but Michigan's defense is just plain bad. As you can see, both Northwestern and Illinois are pretty average offensively ranking near the middle of offensive efficiency and each managed to put a lot of points on this Michigan defense. No team in the B-10 has put up less than 65 against Michigan in the B-10, and only Radford, Brown, and Eastern Washington have put up less than 60 on this Michigan defense.

For me, a slight lean toward the over 121.5 in this game.

Anyone else have an opinion on this game?

Great post Bear... I also was leaning towards the over a little bit myself. I might throw a unit on that. I think Iowa's defense will be the difference in this game. Michigan just doesnt deserve to be laying pts to anybody right now imo whether they are at home or not. Who knows this should be an ugly game.. GL

Thanks 5 star... Only problem though is when the dog covers there is a good chance that the under will also hit. That's what's holding me back here. So if you like Iowa, presumably for Iowa to cover they are going to have to play thier game and control the tempo. If that happens, then they should slow it down making the under a stronger bet. But again, I go back to how bad Michigan's defense is and wonder exactly who can they stop?

Nothing yet for me...but I do like Iowa and wouldn't be surprised if they won outright.

UM's defense may be terrible, as BB pointed out, but Iowa's certainly not an offensive juggernaut, and even if they shoot a high percentage, Lickliter's tendency to slow the game down and minimize possessions will make it difficult for the Hawkeyes to break 60. On the other side, UM's offense is absolutely dreadful in halfcourt sets, how this game will surely be played. Between Harris and Sims, their only two capable scorers, they take about a handful of quality shots per game, and they seldom get easy buckets around the rim. I think this game will be played with both teams in the 50s, and I'd tend to agree that Iowa's the right side for the simple fact they execute much better on the offensive end. Should be an absolutely brutal game to watch.

I got +5 at Matchbook early this morning... I saw it at +4.5 at betjam this morning, those are the only 2 places im playing at currently so not sure about what it what anywhere else. lol you are right that it should be a brutal game to watch, I dont think I have the patience to watch this game tonight haha.

Thanks man, yeah Michigan is as phony as it gets... You are right about finding winners with serious and civil sports discussions. Right now is the time of year where I really start doing my homework with college hoops... Conference play is in full swing and I have seen enough of certain teams where I have a strong feel on where teams stand. Thats why when I saw Mich favored I really didnt get it because from everything I have seen from them this year they are nothing but frauds. Where as with Iowa I have seen some life out of them and thought they were the better team going in... I dont know im just glad it won. I look forward to having more college hoops discussions down the road

5star any thoughts on MSU-Minn today, Tubby has the gophers playing above their talent levels and very tough at home im thinking of taking Minny -1.
