    ESPN Advertising Gambling Sites !?!
I was surprised (somewhat shocked) to hear commercials on ESPN radio for two internet gambling sites. Bodog and BetUs both aired ads within the same hour on Monday.

All I have been hearing about internet sports gambling is that it is 100% illegal and they can "get you" if they catch you doing it.

Please, someone give me the truth about internet gambling and gambling sites.
Just how illegal is it and why do they allow ads in ESPN radio if it is illegal????

It's illegal for banks to facilitate gambling transactions, it's not illegal for the player. Whether it's illegal for media companies to accept sportsbook dollars depends on what kind of a mood the DOJ is in. ESPN's lawyers must have discovered that they're feeling tolerant right now.

if you listen to the Bodog ads, you'll notice they don't advertise the actual gambling site. They advertise bodog.net or something.

They try to get people to go there in the hopes that they can then rope them into signing up for an actual Bodog account.

Fletch, it is 100% legal for you to gamble online as long as you claim any winnings as income on your taxes. The government though tries to make this hard for the player by making it illegal for banks to process gambling related transactions.

not true. about two weeks ago heard a bet US radio commercial with gary payton as the spokesman in commercial. they were definitely talking about real betting. sports. forget exactly the gist of commercial but GP was talking about bet where you know you'll get paid. this and that.

Several media outlets in the US were fined for online gambling ads. Believe the Sporting News was fined for online casino ads. If you go to ESPN and check out next weeks games, it has 4 different offshore books listed with the current odds. Don't know how ESPN is getting away with this as it should be illegal. US should just cut the crap and legalize internet gambling.

I hear bodog ads on Fox Sports Radio all the time. Some sportscasters even talk about picks and offshore gambling on their shows.

Riding on an interstate in rural Illinois this summer, I stopped to gas up at an out of the way convenience store and on the somewhat limited magazine rack I found the Marc Lawrence foots Handicappers Yearbook. SBGGlobal ads all over inside this thing and a full page SBGGlobal glossy color ad on the back cover. $9.95 in USA and Canada.

I was somewhat surprised to find it there.

Im not saying anyone does, but thats the legality behind it. If you win and dont file the winnings as income that is illegal and you could if the government wanted to, be prosecuted for income tax ovation. You can win 500k for 10 years and if the government ever found out your were gambling and you showed that you claimed the winnings on your taxes they couldn't do shit to you.

How do you get the offshore sites to send you cash? Will they do this via **? I use ** to send them money, but will they do the same for us?
