How often do you wager on your favorite team?
Most of us don't discuss what teams we grew up watching, or who we really follow throughout the year, other than to compare stats, lines, etc. I think it's good to maintain that level of detachment so you can evaluate lines in an objective way, but c'mon.

I know some of us love certain teams, I'm not asking who your favorite team is but you're free to share, I'm just wondering how often you bet on them and if you have any rules specifically for them to keep yourself grounded? It's a different feeling when your own team loses a bet, or wins and doesn't cover. You're torn in a way.

the key is to be objective crazy....you know your favorite team best so it makes the capping 50% easier when it comes to injuries and whatnot

use that info and cap the game just like any other and make a sound decision on who to put your $ on

    should work out fine

Having a favorite team is irrational yet as such very human and therefore common. The recreational gamblers should have no problem betting their favorite teams while the pros should not have any.

As a die hard Redskins fan, I never bet on them when they are favored, only when they are dogs and I think they have a legit shot at winning outright. No real reason why I do it this way, just the way I chose to bet my team. But I will try to avoid any bet as I normally have enough emotion going into there games. But I will be playing them this weekend...GO SKINS

When taking the Lakers, Im 13-7 so far this season, but its gotten alot tougher the last few weeks.Miami 7-3, you get lots of points this year with the Heat. All in Best Bets NBA Forum. Those are my two favorite teams.

My only favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. In every other sport and with every other team I"m objective. I hate it when I know the right play is to fade the ML. I still play it but it makes watching harder (especially if they play Montreal). In NFL, NBA, MLB I have no favourites. I still cheer for the jays but that's about it.

Favourite teams are for suckers and homers. They have no place in gambling.

PS my favourite team is the one that wins me the most money......

                  Keyword : it's human.

If most pro gamblers have no favorite team at all, it's basically assuming they grew up never playing sports, or caring for/watching sports through being a kid, teen, and into adulthood. That's definitely the case for some people, but I don't think most of them end up as professional sports bettors.

There's this stigma attached to betting on a local or favorite team that it's only the most inept of all bettors to do so. If you're extremely analytical and objective, with deep enough pockets, and happen to be in the small % of people who earn livings solely from gambling, I think you're disciplined enough to know when you should or shouldn't make a bet, even if it involves a team you care for.

And I think is that you are all those things you must realize at some point that you have grown up and no longer care about all the silly things you cared about while you were a kid.

Most of the things you learned and cared about as a kid are what made you the man you are today. Just curious what the cut off age is for liking a team...I want to know how many years I have left

I rarely bet on or against my favorite teams. This year Im 2-1. I think you can bet em just have to be very selective and not just bet em because they are the action on TV.

I tend to wager on my favorite teams quite a bit. Of course this is not just being a "homer" and betting on my team week in, week out. I believe I have a good feel for my favorite teams and I follow them very close. I bet against my favorite teams probobly more often when I bet on them because when your a gambler it is very important to bet with your head and not your heart...

Like others have said, if you're not completely attached and are capping wisely, you should do well betting your team, since you watch them everyday (or almost).

And if you love a team, put $x against them...you won't feel bad if they win or lose

I never ever bet against my own team. I don't want to find myself watching a close, late game and uncertain whether to root for my team or for my money. I only bet on my favorite teams when I'm certain it's a lock to win, because I don't want the double whammy of my team losing and my bankroll losing.

The advantage to being a Cowboys fan in Pittsburgh, though, is that I easily get all the local newspaper, TV, and radio info on the Steelers and have no problem betting on or against them. I play the Steelers about every week because I've normally got a lot more info on them than I do even my Cowboys.

I am a Michigan State Spartan fan, Pistons, Lions and Tigers.

I put a lot of action on the Spartans basketball team and the Pistons.

The Lions and Spartan football teams are the hardest teams to predict. I only put action on these teams once in a while because they will force you into losing all of your bankroll. Believe me, I have many friends that have been burned by these teams.

I have not had action on baseball in 15 years, but when I did it was the Tigers and the over back when they had Cecil Fielder, Tettleton, Rob Deer: all home run hitters.

It's rare for a personal favorite and strong angles to combine. For a couple of years I bet on the PHX Suns in the 1H after they didn't win the previous 2H. Worked great. But no more. This year's Suns don't have the same focus.

Other than that, my favorite teams are pretty much the ones that consistently cash.
