#2You've just lost all of your credibility with me, jjgold... (you still had a little before but it's all gone now):
Sad day for me.

#5I use four parts of season. First six games, which I throw out. Then I start looking for trends and play them from December until the All Star break. During this period teams are defined by different degrees of focus. Focus creates consistency, and consistency creates trends. The third part is from the ASB until the end of the regular season. Teams start to dig much deeper here, so now it becomes about measuring intensity. The last part is the playoffs; all out war.
In terms of focus, the Spurs, Mavs, and Suns aren't really that interested right now. They've already proven themselves and will kick it into higher gear later on. The Celtics are trying to join that group, so their focus is much greater. Pistons are solid as well, showing an interesting capacity to peak for a quarter and coast the rest of the way.
The Lakers are trying to make the next step, but still have a long way to go. To judge a team for the championship during this part of the season you have to look at how much they're NOT showing. To me the Lakers are already close to the end of their growth curve for the season, while the real contenders are saving it for later.Comment -

ok sir. all of these teams have something to prove. did you forget dallas was knocked out of the first round by the lowest seed and that was the first time that happened in a 7 game series? they have a lot to prove. suns have never made it out of the west with that great team. you dont think they realize that getting home court is their best bet? spurs really dont have much to prove except the fact that they are getting pretty old now (aging team). all are playing below standards because teams study tape and find ways to slow them down. Lakers can still grow. bynum can still get to the point where he does not foul often, and start becoming coming more clutch down the stretch. odom can become more consistent, and others are still growing. so dont act like barkely and steven a smith browski.Comment -
