IPFW gambling expert to be on ESPN Oct. 23
Gambling in one form or another has become a part of the landscape in this country. Legalized gambling can range from slot machines and poker tournaments at casinos, to state-sponsored scratch-off lottery tickets, to pari-mutuel wagering on horse races, and sports betting parlors or "sports books," which are often found in Las Vegas casinos as well as on the Internet.
One area in which gaming is increasing is on college campuses and that can cause a lot of problems.
George McClellan, vice chancellor for student affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), is a nationally recognized expert on college gambling. Because of his expertise, McClellan was interviewed for a segment on ESPN's new magazine show, E:60.
McClellan says the long-ranging interview looked at various aspects of college gambling. "We discussed the role colleges play in helping to alleviate the problem and why some aren't paying more attention to the problem. We also talked about the media's role in the increase in gambling; how ESPN itself highlights poker payers, making them as famous as rock stars," said McClellan.
He was told the segment in which he will be included is scheduled to air on ESPN, Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p m. eastern time.
