What is the purpose of kicking FGs in the preseason

    I'll never understand this

You can run some 4th down plays and the XP is 35 yards no anyway I'd think an extra drive w scoring chance would be more beneficial

    NE kicking FGs all night

The rookie kicker kicked only 3 field goals tonight, from 35, 40 and 50 yards out, one in each of the first 3 quarters in his first action in the NFL.

    That's it.

I think it has more to do with future 4th down plays. Other teams actually look at what the opposition does in the pre-season under certain situations in an effort to predict how that team will act in the same given situation later in the season.

So Belicheat is always working the season and doesn't want to show any cards if he can help it. Truth be told, I bet he would rather just run the normal vanilla plays and try to keep his personnel groupings a secret.

Yeah, nobody opens the playbook on day 1 of preseason.

You do not get into preseason games for free. So you play them like you are trying to win.
