Bill Benter the most successful Professional Sports Investor in the world..

    Has anyone bought his book?????!!!!

The man made nearly a Billion dollars on Horse Race Betting by creating his own algorithm system..!

What is absolutely insane is the fact he did this in the mid-1980’s when there
was basically zero computer technology when compared to today..

What is even crazier he is from PITTSBURGH!

You ask why is that crazy?

Art Rooney bought the Pittsburgh Steelers with Horse Race betting winnings
as the Steelers are the most successful franchise in the NFL and are still owned
    by the Rooney family!

I have recently started researching algorithm systems seriously and I keep coming
    across the name Bill Benter..

I'll be honest here.. I have never heard of the guy, Lol......

So have any of you bought his book?

With today's technology creating an algorithm has never been easier and I'm going to do it!!

If he has it out in a book, it is no longer +EV. It's more than likely from speed figures and those are in everyone's hands now.

I wouldn't waste your money on the book per the Amazon reviews:

"The bulk of this thin (~20-30 page) book is a full-text plagiarization of the original Benter paper on the topic, which is freely available online. The rest of the content is not substantial or new to anyone familiar with basic probability or Prof. Ed Thorp's work."

"All the material is available online within this book, being a reprint of an old paper from the 90s and a presentation that is a available in full on Youtube. Bill Benter could have at least added a few pages to this. A real disappointment."

It would be insane if he did it in today's era. In the 80's, due to the lack of computer technology, it was possible to acheive an information edge; that simply can't happen today.

    This wrong. Totally 100% wrong.

I've proven that here over multiple years. The markets are not as efficient as you think. Look at all the line movement we see.

It's not the information, it's how you use it.

I agree but 20-40 years ago, it was possible to know more than the books; today it takes one click of a button and all the info is priced into the line.

Think about what you're saying there.

Even if what you are saying is true it's not what actually happens. The line serves a purpose in getting acceptable action on one or both sides of an issue. Information, especially stats are used to shape that but you can't discount public perception, especially in higher volume games.

There are openers and there are closers. Sometimes it takes very little action to shape a line and sometimes the books take positions in games using the line.

Again, it's not the information, it's how you use it and the techniques employed by the books through all those decades have never changed. Once learned, always learned.

I hope that makes sense. It's not about information being priced into a line as much as it is the motivation of the market driving those prices. Some lines are "sharp" driven with massive bets and some lines are public driven. I've posted so many example of this, including games where that market moving "sharp" money is intentionally sidelined to make room for a more public position.

The line serves many purposes to many different types of bettors...another thing that hasn't ever changed, and never will.

Is the market smarter, yes. Does it matter, no. Patience and discipline were always the key.

A lot has been written about Benter and the horse-betting syndicate. Surely a lot of it is dated now.

Benter said that he started w/ one publication that studied several different horse trends. He built his model w/ that as a starting point.

The horse forums talked about how they modified the model. They hired video specialists who would watch each race at least twice. They took trip handicapping to another level.

Benter said he was amazed at how well the syndicate did. Worth reading anything u can find about Benter/Woods.

Talked to a guy who knew Woods and saw the famous Computer Model 1st-hand. Detail-oriented would be an understatement.
