If you want to have any chance of becoming good at this game the first thing you must learn is what is actually happening in the game. Look at the game in progress below:

No winner for post #62. The final score was Green 51 Purple 39. Some of you may have gotten confused by the dead spot in the middle of the board. The dead spot is like a blackhole. You must work around it. You can't capture pieces through it. Below are the final 4 moves of the game. The hexagons outlined in blue indicate where the last move was made and the pieces that were flipped. Any questions?

Hey John, I have a question about the last game. It’s green’s move, so why not take the hex to the far right, instead of the hex in the upper left hand corner? Wouldn’t that move have converted more spaces to green and left purple with no move, thereby causing purple to lose a turn?

You show green taking the hex 2nd from the top left, then purple takes the hex right next to it, and then green finally takes the hex on the far right, with purple taking the last space in the top upper left.

Just wondering if the moves I described would’ve been a better combination? It is correct right, if purple has no move, it’s turn is lost and reverts back to green, correct? Those were the moves I used to come up with my total.

Thanks for the challenges, I remember playing this game as a kid, been a long time, lol.

Fair question, it's because Purple has a legal move there and green does not. Look below:

He could have. But regardless... he would still have to move in the upper left quadrant where he only has one option, and then purple would have gotten the last 2 moves either way. After the first move in the upper left quadrant... Purple will get the last 2 moves in that quadrant no matter what. The score would be the same either way. No matter what order you do it in... Purple is going to get 2 out of the 3 moves in that upper left quadrant.

I quit playing Othello/Reversi because there are computer programs that can beat any human. There are no programs for Hexversi. If somebody beats me at Hexversi... I know they are for real.

Btw, both games have the exact same rules. Only difference is the shape and size of the board. And Hexversi has a dead spot/blackhole in the middle of the board.

I realized after I paid him that he wrote 58 instead of 48. But he did the math exactly right so I'm pretty sure he meant 48. Had you not guessed so hastily you would have won. Whether tanko wants to throw you some points or not is up to him.


There are still 50 points up for grabs for post #74.

Also, if anyone wants to play me in a game(it's not live, a few moves a day) I'll give 500 points to the first person that can beat me. And 100 points to anyone that score at least 30 against me.
