I've noticed this in the NBA. A middle of the pack team gets hot. They're an underdog at first, they win some unexpected games. They become a small favorite for a few games home games, they keep winning. Then the spreads start climbing until finally they're a big favorite against another team, everyone expects them to win BUT they lose outright (by totally forgetting to show up, they lose by 20 as an 8 point favorite). Then they stop covering for a while (whether they win outright or lose). Then they either fall back into the pack forever or the cycle of pump and dump starts again. This exact thing happened to the Clippers and Heat last year and I was able to take advantage of it.
I think Green Bay may have been the team that got dumped this week. The spread was a trap from the beginning, how could they only be favored by 4.5 against a super-struggling Chicago? How could they be outscored 20-3 in the second half at home to that same Chicago team that's looked they couldn't beat anyone? What's going on here? How in the world did LVSC know that was coming? It's amazing!
