I thought the original decision to kick the FG was bad enough, at least if he’s trying to win the game. (Although it would have cut the lead to within a TD of the 11.5 pt line so it wouldn’t have been bad for my sake.)

Although this call occurred way at the beginning of the ND/Clemson game, what is wrong with that continuing action fumble rule? Is that rule new this year?

I never heard of that rule until the Ohio State-Northwestern Big 10 title game. Ohio State was ruled to have recovered a fumble because of continuing action. OSU scored a TD shortly afterword. That call cost me money, since I had bet on Northwestern to cover the 16.5 point spread, and Ohio State won by 21.

The ND Clemson game is only the second time I’ve ever heard of the continuing action rule.

I think that rule is ridiculous. Players stop playing after a whistle, so how do you know the defense would have recovered the fumble if the whistle hadn’t blown?
